I have stayed at both London hotels~New York & L.A. The latter numerous times. The L.A London used to be the old worldly BelAge ~sort of a lower order Four Seasons.
It has been redesigned as the London Hotel-an LXR hotel/resort. I am not really sure why it's called a resort~I mean,it's got a pool on the roof. It's a very pretty rooftop~esp. at night with twinkly lights, cabanas etc.,but does that make it a resort ? That means my Aunt's house is a resort...
The lobby is lovely in golds, cream & black with some fun pieces.Valet & front desk make it friendly & easy to get into your room. The rooms are all large and have comfortable beds & bedding. They also have pretty loungy sofas that could double as kids beds or for crashers~I had neither ! Balconies with various city views and sounds~I've enjoyed a basketball court, side streets, apartments, balconies, people's yards and parking ares.It has never been too loud except for the occasional rooftop jazz band or DJ.That's always fun : / The bathrooms are huge, white and bright ~oh but wait~the lighting is all adjustable which i LOVE in a hotel room. They also have the best bath products~"Clear by Jean-Jacques" is one I use at home -it's sold at the Golden Door online .It's very clean~sometimes the rooms can smell a bit...carpet cleaner-ish or old smoke and that made me change rooms.
The room service gets to you straight away-it's more a matter of do you actually want to eat it ?The food at the London is NOT great-barely hitting average. The hotel's old restaurant "Diaghilev" was so beautiful,& elegant with amazing food & drink.I must give a special nod to it's Manager/Maitre d' Dimitrov Dimitri (who is now at Tower Bar).He made the evening a class act.Attentive, refined with attention to the details of your dining experience the likes of which you may see on film but never know again. Now the restaurant is Gordon Ramsey. It's so bland and uninventive-it has no stamp or style except we know his name.It needs some items with heat or hey how about texture ! Crunch ,crispy or depth would be a welcome note to the party. They do serve a breakfast buffet which has nothing special on it-it's pretty much a business person's buffet .Forgettable.
The London is in a perfect location for music,(Roxy,The Whiskey) entertainment industry meet-ups(in between all major and minor studios) shopping(Melrose,3rd street)starf**keres( Hollywood Walk of Fame,Beverly Hills and Rainbow friendly(Santa Monica Blvd)great Gay clubs and eye candy.
Here is what I find strange about the London~it's in a great location, has nice digs, swanky rooftop pool ,decent rooms but has NO SCENE whatsoever ! Who is in charge of PR at this place ? It's being sold as an something to someone who is not staying there.Who IS staying there are visiting business folks. The occasional family. It's not cool. There is no vibe. They need to cater to the Gay crowd (in my humble native LA'er opinion)I mean ~it's 1 second to SM Blvd !
It's got a salon, rooftop pool with cabanas ~it could be a goldmine .They need to hire a younger ,cooler person to sell this place up.
