I booked a weekend stay at the Sunset Tower three months in advance. We arrived to have the front desk tell us that a group had decided to stay longer and they had to give up our reservation. They had made arrangements for us to stay at a Best Western down the street. No apology. Unbelievable. This was beyond bad service.

I was fortunate enough to be a winner of the Glamour Reel Moments film series, and Glamour put us up at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood. What a gorgeous place! Everything was spotless (it was one of the only hotels I felt comfortable enough walking across the carpet in my bare feet), the room was beautiful and the beds super comfortable. Every time you left the hotel, they would open the doors for you and wish you a pleasant time out. The room was nice, but the air conditioning would freeze you overnight and you would get under the covers only to burn up. We tried settings from 70F to 73F and it didn't matter! Just be aware, maybe bring some PJs with long pants?

The restaurant is expensive but we had breakfast there one day, I had the granola (made on premises) and berries and yogurt, and it was one of the best things I ate the entire trip. Highly recommended. We also ate at some pizza dive nearly next door (avoid), the Saddle Ranch across the street (I had the crab macaroni and cheese, I would recommend getting chicken or vegetarian mac & cheese as they added so much bacon you couldn't taste the crab, but it was delicious, and we had the half-baked chocolate chip cookie for dessert, yummers!) and at the dining car next to the Saddle Ranch (avoid the chili). There is also a Starbucks across the street, very convenient.

It's not within walking distance of downtown Hollywood, but my husband and I walked to the Walk of Fame like freaks (no one walks in LA!), it was a ways away, about 20 blocks, but we took our time and actually enjoyed it. It is a haul, wear good shoes. In Hollywood, we took a chance and took one of those open-car tours, it was only $20 a person (plus tip, and yeah, they did hint they wanted tips, and that was an extra $20) and we had a great time, so I'm glad I didn't book a bus tour off the internet for $100 a person! It was personable and funny, and probably the best thing we did all day.

All in all, I would stay at the Sunset Towers again. Beautiful hotel and they make you feel like a celebrity yourself!

“Another perfect visit at the Sunset Tower Hotel”

I have stayed at this hotel approx. 25 times. It is always a great visit. The staff is professional and friendly. The rooms are always perfect. The restaurant amazing. The parking valets are the best in LA.

We just returned from our stay at the Sunset Tower. We arrived after we missed our connection and were delayed four hours, so we were very cranky upon arrival. We were happy to learn we were upgraded (complimentary) from a queen to a deluxe king. It was one of the largest hotel rooms I have ever seen and did not expect that in a large city. We had a 10th floor corner room with views of the Sunset Strip. The amenities were great -- Khiel's bath products, fresh grapes every day, two flat screen TVs, two DVD players, a safe (which are becoming harder to come by in hotels these days), free wireless and computers downstairs (where I did lots of last minute trip planning). Every morning, they delivered the LA Times to our room and every night we returned from dinner to find warm cookies and complimentary water. The valets were great and always made sure we knew how to get where we were going. Every time we came or left, the front desk would great us. It was not the usual boutique hotel attitude where the staff is good-looking but unhelpful. I even asked for an extra pillow and there was one waiting for me when we returned that evening. And the pool was perfect -- always empty (though a bit cool and small). And, the hotel was a short drive to most of our attractions.

My only complaints are I prefer a bathtub, but we only had a shower (though it was a very large, nice shower) and they were stingy with the towels (though I'm sure they would have given me more if asked).

I did not expect this kind of treatment from a large city hotel. The personal attention and service felt like a small B&B. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Hollywood area.

“Fake luxury”

During our trip to California, we decided to book two luxury hotel to experience the "Amercan dream". One of them was amazing but the other one was a terrible choice!
The Sunset Tower Hotel is a terrible choice!
Why?
For many reasons:

- When we arrive, the staff was so rude: they kept saying that we were NOT registered and asked us to wait 15 minutes until they finally found our informations and believe it or not, they did not even apologize!

- The pool was so disapointing: it is too small and too close to the restaurant!

- The waiter at the restaurant was totally rude: we decided to have a drink there to enjoy, we were two boys and one girl and guess what? The waiter poured the wine one the two boys glasses and ended with the girl's! Unbelivable in a "luxury hotel"

- I asked at the lady at the front desk to warn me when my friend had arrived and that she could let her come to the room.
She of course didn't do anything of that and after a while we decided to go down and we found my friend waiting!

- When we left, we asked for the car and so we gave the keys to the guys who take care of the cars. We saw something very shoking that took place right in front of our eyes: the two guys apparently didn't want to take care of our car and started to throw they keys at each other! One of them finally decided to take care of it!

- We received the bill from our credit card and noticed that the Sunset TOwer Hotel charged 120 euros extra for ... Nothing!
But I m sure it is a mistake... OR...

BUT

The rooms are very nice!
