I had a fantastic stay at The Sunset Towers Hotel in West Hollywood a few months ago, and was outraged to just read a very negative review of the place. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but can only think this person must have some personal axe to grind.
I have been a regular visitor to Los Angeles for the last twenty years for both business and pleasure, and have seen the tasteful and very sophisticated refurbishment of this property over the last four years having always stayed out of loyalty at the nearby Chateau Marmont.
When the latter became too much of a media circus with beligerant service and irritatingly impossible parking, I decided to try The Sunset Towers.
Far from having a drab lobby, I found the place was quietly dignified with a luxurious look that embodied its original era. I loved lunching in the Terrace Bar and sipping cocktails later as I overlooked the sensational view of the brights lights, big city.
I thought the menu's were creative and very hard to choose from, whether it was the light appetisers or delicious desserts. Watching my waistline as always, I liked the fact there was always a nod to the healthy eater with options like the yummy Organic Greens appetiser with asparagus, goats cheese and walnuts, or the lovely Lobster Cobb, or something spectacular to splurge on like the juicy steak and frites.
The room I had was one of the least expensive, but impeccably clean and tidy with bathroom surfaces I could have eaten my truffle omlette off, should I have felt the need.
Room service was prompt and delicious, staff could not have done enough to help but never lingered embarrassingly whilst I rummaged for a dollar or two.
I had some friends with children meet me there (and that can often be the litmus test of a swanky uptown hotel) but they were welcomed and served with grace, despite their noisy excitement in the pool area.
Then there is the Spa.. well what can I say.. it has everything anyone could want in the form of peaceful relaxation and treatments, the perfect foil to a hard days work.
I think this hotel is totally unique, it has cool, buzzy bars and is located right in the centre of Sunset Strip where everything goes on,yet offers an oasis of calm if thats what you want.
I am not the easiest person to please with exactlng standards and picky preferences, but if the Sunset Towers can please me, I can honestly recommend it to anyone- as I frequently do!
