This hotel certainly elicits extreme opinions - we took the risk and decided to spend the first three nights of our honeymoon. We were not disappointed - the staff were all obliging, the decor stylish - and the rooms were so comfortable, it would be easy not to venture out. The place is cool - no doubt - but the service is certainly not rude or cold - at least not in our opinion.

I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occaisions, some times for a few days and some times for a few months. The staff are fantastic and the rooms are suites. The atmosphere is everything you would want in a boutique hotel. I held back writing this review as I do not want it to become too popular! I want to return and return,

I have had nothing short of Excellent service at this hotel. Room service was outstanding and quick. I came in as an Expedia package/deal customer, which is far from their normal discriminating, famous customers. I did see an approving nod from the Manager saying "not bad" but that did not bother me. I expect he gives disapproving nods also.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with hip/modern, and more importantly, comfortable, furniture. The decor is outstanding. There are cd players with the best sound system of any hotel Ive ever stayed in. In fact, I took many cd's with me and I barely wanted to leave my Junior Suite, it was a wonderful escape. Not to mention the gorgeous tattooed men around the pool, major Hollywood deals going on around the pool at the dining area, and extremely helpful staff.

The Sunset Marquis also has one of the most confidential staffs around. No celeb sitings in the news from this hotel unless it was a guest reporting such. The Whiskey Bar is cozy and cute and luckily, if you are staying over on a weekend, you can get in (as a hotel guest) to enjoy the discriminating crowd who Are allowed in.

One of the most charming aspects of the Sunset Marquis is the gorgeous, secluded garden in the back of the hotel. I had my breakfast delivered out to my table (conveniently located under an avocado tree, next to a babbling fountain) and read the NY Times in Utter Heaven.

Finally found a hotel that I would actually return to for another visit. Spent two nights in June 2004 and wish I had time for more. Service was wonderful and always with a smile...how refreshing!
