It is quite possibly one of the worst hotels in Los Angeles. I'm guessing the Best Western is better. I urge everyone to do all the research they can before staying here, don't look it up after the fact like I did. This hotel has seen better days. I can't really tell who their clientele is. They claim to be a luxury hotel, but the place is run like a cheap motel. If you define luxury by quality service, nice decor, good furniture and amenities this is not the place for you. I'm from the midwest and all, but this would only be considered "luxury" by residents of a third world country. The staff and the building are pretty worn out. Many of the staff members are heavily tattooed, so if that's your thing you'll like it. They have goofy oversized pictures of rock and roll people and B-list celebs who were famous 20 years ago in the lobby, so maybe they think themselves to be hip? I'm not sure, but if you stay here you'll regret it, take my advice. The staff are mostly terrible, the design is terrible. They have new carpet in the hallways so maybe they're renovating, which would be a great idea since it seems the last time they decorated was in the early 1980's. They have nothing special to set them apart from the pack other than their high prices and bad service. Some of the bellmen were nice, but they're not great at their jobs. Everything was bumbled from my check-in, to my room assignment to my luggage being delivered to someone else, to a missed wake-up call, to my smoke filled non-smoking room, to my plastic shower curtain, to the bad food I had. They don't allow you to self-park which means you have to wait while the rude, incompetent valet pulls up your car. My rental car was scratched by them, but they refused to take responsibility or pay for the damage. My stay got progressively worse throughout. The front desk are petulant or despondent and couldn't care less about you. They act as if they're miserable to be there (I don't blame them). The concierge guy was completely [-----] and acted like he was having a panic attack when I asked to book a massage. The man (who I assume to be the bar manager) seemed like he was high on something. I spoke with one grumpy older manager who promised to follow up but never did, and a woman who's accent was so thick I have no idea what she said. It would've been like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch if it wasn't so terrible. The only nice thing I would say about this hotel is that they have a pretty garden and fountain with koi fish and a bridge-thing. Other than that, it's as bad if not worse than everyone says. Don't be fooled into wasting money here. I agree with the woman who said the only positive postings on here are the ones put here by this hotel's management.

“Amazing Villa at Sunset Marquis”

We have stayed at the Sunset Marquis several times over the years and have enjoyed the comfort, style and service above all others in the area, BUT, the Marquis has outdone itself with the new villas that have just been completed. I have never felt more at home during a hotel stay than this one. The Villas are exactly what you want them to be - home away from home. Brigitte and Francois met us upon arrival and thought of every detail. To be so pampered in the heart of Hollywood is the best of all worlds. We got to meet the new Chef and sample his cuisine and we can't wait to get back to see the opening of the beautiful new outdoor restaurant in the middle of the hotel. The setting is truly european and completely isolated from hustle and bustle of Sunset Blvd just a block away.
After a long night on the town, the Sunset was great to sleep in and have late breakfast out on the balcony of our villa. The only thing that could have been better was to have stayed in the presidential suite with their six figure audio video system in the media room. Next time! If you like to be pampered with great service, friendly, helpful staff and be as comfortable as home, this is the place.

From the moment we arrived; when we were greeted by the parking attendant to the time we checked out and the bell captain packed our last bag in the car, our experience was truly exceptional. The staff is courteous and professional. The hotel is very inviting by providing a warm and clean decor. The room/suites our family stayed in was incredible; very comfortable with great amenities. The beds are so comfortable! The hotel really provides a great atmosphere for the entire family. The staff was very sweet to our five year old daughter and really went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. We had breakfast by the pool on a beautiful, sunny Southern California morning. The service and the food were fantastic (the Huevos Rancheros are a must!). The Sunset Marquis is quaintly located just off the Sunset strip – a great location for so-cal fun. As a business executive, I travel domestically and internationally often and the Marquis, in my opinion, is truly at the top of my list.

“Very Disappointed”

Sunset Marquis Hotel and Villas

An actress friend of mine reccommended this hotel, so I went against my better judgement and all the bad reviews I've read and gave it a try. I was very disappointed to say the least.

I can get over the fact that the hotel design and rooms are a little dated and ugly, but the service and the way they treat you, not to mention what you get for the amount they charge is inconceiveable. The service is some of the worst I've ever seen. I'm used to staying in higher end hotels so this was a mistake from the beginning. But even though I tried my best to grin and bear it, this experience was a nightmare.

Employees at the front desk are either rude or clueless. The concierge staff was hostile and unfriendly and treated me like I was interrupting their conversation. It was difficult for them to get me reservations at any restaurant I wanted, so it seems strange to have them. I mean, most hotel conceirge have connections, that's why you use them. Maybe they make it hard to go elsewhere so that you stay and eat in their depressing, unappetizing restaurant? The problem with that is the food smply isn't edible. The waiters walk around in these fleece jackets like they're high school kids, and that's about the mentality they have too.

In my stuffy, dirty room no one filled my mini bar for three days or came to fix my broken faucet. When I called to complain, the rude french woman I spoke to copped an attitude and accused me of having a do-not-disturb sign on my door, which just wasn't true. But even after all that, still no one came! Also, this is petty, but I was told they don't accept dogs even for a fee, but when I arrived I notced several. When I asked about this at the lobby desk, I was told they don't accept pets unless you're a celebrity! Maybe celebrities get better service and rooms than the rest of us because I can't imagine why any would stay here otherwise.

I'll save my true feelings because I doubt they'll print that kind of language here, but take it from me this hotel should be skipped whenever you're in Los Angeles. I'm not sure what their niche is, but you can rule out anyone who appreciates good service, design, food, or hospitality! These people don't know what they're doing and there are much better hotels nearby like the Four Seasons, the Peninsula and Beverly Hills Hotel who do.

This hotel is worse than the worst reviews on here. You should really
do your research and think twice before staying here. It by no means
qualifies to be a luxury hotel. It's not even good enough to be a budget
hotel, but that doesn't stop them from charging ridiculous fees.

My girlfriend and I gave a negative review of the hotel and their Sales Manager Dennis sent me a Cease and Desist
letter threatening to sue!

It's all the bad things they say- ugly, unfriendly, over-priced,bad
food, bad service, no jacuzzi, smelly. Terrible rooms, terrible staff, unbelievably bad management.
