I stayed at the RPWH for 8 nights beginning August 2nd, 2007 with my best friend. We are both 22 year old females and felt very safe in the neighbourhood despite some of the reviews below.

The staff at the hotel were helpful, especially the concierge who confirmed tours for us and arranged taxis for us as well. The rooms have complimentary internet but to access it, you have to ask reception for a code which they didn't give us on check-in.

The rooms were fine. We had a twin room with 2 double-beds which were
comfortable and clean. The room also had a fridge (empty) which was handy as there was a fantastic pharmacy up the road we could stock it with so cheaply! The room also had pay TV and the air-conditioning. The bathroom was pretty big and toiletries included.

The cleaning staff were also really friendly!

There are snack and drink machines in the hallway which are great for midnight munchies and stocking up the fridge in your room, but for the best value, I recommend walking about 5 minutes down the road to CVS pharmacy. It was HUGE (unlike any pharmacy I've ever seen
in Australia!) with a huge food section with freezer. Try the Carnation ice-cream cookie sandwiches... OMG they are so good!!!! ($3 for a box of 6) Alcohol is also really cheap here... I think a bottle of vodka was about $10!!! (cheaper than Australia duty free!)

Girls from Australia... a word of advice... if you love make-up and skin care GO TO CVS! The newest Loreal foundation that costs $35 in Aus was about $14 there!!!!!

Anyway, enough about the fabulous pharmacy... about 5 minutes in the opposite direction from the hotel is Subway and Pizza Hut... great options for a quick dinner! There is also a couple of other places near there thatwe didn't go to. In the CVS pharmacy direction there was a shop that had sandwiches and healthy looking food and also an IHOP (international house of pancakes) where we had dinner the night we got into LA. The chicken tender thingys were so yummy!

From the hotel, you can walk to the Beverly Centre. It is about a 30 minute walk so you may want to taxi it but my friend and I didn't mind. There was heaps of cool stuff here.... I bought loads of stuff in Victorias Secret (gorgeous stuff!!) A gorgeous Juicy Couture bracelet in (i think) Bloomingdales and a fragrance gift set from Macys. Again, girls, fragrance works out so much cheaper here!! Guess
bags were also fantastically cheap - around $50-80 (they are around $120-$150 here!) so there is heaps of fantastic stuff to buy there!

Another spot we went to a few times from the hotel was Hollywood Blvd (Graumans Chinese Theatre, Walk Of Fame etc) we got there by taxi which cost between $12-$22 depending on the traffic. There is lots of fantastic shops along Hollywood Blvd, loads of souvenir shops.... we were even lucky enough to see Will Smith filming there! We also saw Johnny Knoxville shopping!

We also took a taxi to Universal studios from the hotel... around $25-30 each way. This worked out really well because tours left the park at around 6pm but it doesnt shut until 9pm. The park gets much quieter around 8pm and when the park shuts you can shop on Univeral Citywalk. We didnt get home until around 11:30pm!

We were really pleased with the hotel, the location was great and the room was pretty big and everything was comfortable. The only complaint I would have was the lighting in the room... it was also the same in our Vegas hotel... there are no lights on the ceiling, just about 5 or 6 desk/standing lamps so the room seemed a little dark. Other than that, great!!

Feel free to ask me questions about the hotel or the places we went too!!!! There really is just too much to write into a review!

The booking process was easy to do online through the hotel's website, and I was pleased with the rate for the room, compared to other hotels in the area. When I arrived, the parking garage (if you choose not to use valet) was a bit confusing as to where you can park - they have parking spaces reserved for monthly parking, retail shopping, and for a rental car company as well. After finding parking on the 2nd floor, you have to walk all the way down through the garage to get in the hotel.

The appearance of the front of the hotel and the lobby was very pleasant, and the check in process was very smooth. I was surprised that they didn't ask for my signature when I checked in though.

The appearance ends once you get into your room however. They seem to have not given much effort into renovating or updating the rooms. There was no desk, just a table, mold in the shower, no kleenex, minimal furnishings/decorations, the mattress was lopsided, and on one of the hottest days in LA, the window was wide open (to air the room out??).

I put all thoughts aside when I left, chalking it up to experience, but as I got in the elevator I overheard the other passenger in the elevator complaining on her cell phone about how crummy her room was as well.

For one night it was a comfortable room, parking was overpriced, and since they use actual keys (not key cards) for the doors, you have to go back down to the front desk to check out. When I checked out, I was asked if I wanted to put all charges on the card I gave at checkout? I said yes, and was asked for my card again, and had to give my signature then. This seems like a big timewaster, and I can imagine causes long lines to form during peak hours.

I was a little iffy after reading the reviews, but it wasn't bad at all!!

Hotel had perfect location, it was so close to sunset blvd and not very far to Hollywood blvd.. Yes, it is a gay area, but it didn't matter to us, it was also a safe area. we walked up and down the streets and we were fine.

we had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool, it was nice, nothing spectacular.. we had everything we needed, no problems. The Room had a little refrigerator, which was nice. The bed was comfy. The shower was nice size, the bathroom had a phone by the toliet, which was strange.. The room can use a update but it was fine.

There is a restaurant next store, which we had breakfast at, it was alil pricey. There are a few really cute Italians restaurants down the block that are good for dinner. There is a IHOP a few blocks up.

The concierge there is very helpful, we booked a tour with him and he gave us all the info and everything we needed. He also got a taxi whenever we were going somewhere. Any questions, talk to them. The front desk people don't really know too much and arent that helpful. Taxis are alittle expensive, it mite be cheaper to rent a car.

Overall, i would recommended this hotel to anyone who wants to sight see and stay at a hotel that is in hollywood area and isnt that expensive. I read alot of horrible reviews on here, it isnt that bad.. and dont worry about it being in a gay area, its just that block, you go up alittle, its changes, plus its a safe area and everyone is very friendly!

Stayed at the Ramada, West Hollywood in june 07.
Probably the most central to travel to places like, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Universal Studios - BUT not for families or single females. Our travel group consisted of 2 x 45 yr old women, 2 x 16 yr old girls, 2 x 12 yr old boys. This area is an ideal place to stay if you are a gay man (i have lots of gay friends, I'd recommend for them) which made it a little bit boring, no other kids, no luck for single woman. GREAT LOCATION IF YOUR GAY, OTHERWISE AVOID - IT'S BORING BORING BORING AND THE RAMADA IS OUTDATED AND UNFRIENDLY STAFF.

This is not a first class hotel. I knew that going in. But, we enjoyed our stay from Thurs thru Mon. I thought the staff was very nice. The location was convenient to everything and the neighborhood felt safe. This is a predominantly gay area, which is why I chose it. But, families with small children or senior citizens may not feel as comfortable, although I did see both. It's not roach motel, but it's not the Ritz either. I had read the reviews going in and was hesitant, but I booked for the location. And, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. One downfall was the walls are paper thin.
