I stayed at the RPWH for 8 nights beginning August 2nd, 2007 with my best friend. We are both 22 year old females and felt very safe in the neighbourhood despite some of the reviews below.
The staff at the hotel were helpful, especially the concierge who confirmed tours for us and arranged taxis for us as well. The rooms have complimentary internet but to access it, you have to ask reception for a code which they didn't give us on check-in.
The rooms were fine. We had a twin room with 2 double-beds which were
comfortable and clean. The room also had a fridge (empty) which was handy as there was a fantastic pharmacy up the road we could stock it with so cheaply! The room also had pay TV and the air-conditioning. The bathroom was pretty big and toiletries included.
The cleaning staff were also really friendly!
There are snack and drink machines in the hallway which are great for midnight munchies and stocking up the fridge in your room, but for the best value, I recommend walking about 5 minutes down the road to CVS pharmacy. It was HUGE (unlike any pharmacy I've ever seen
in Australia!) with a huge food section with freezer. Try the Carnation ice-cream cookie sandwiches... OMG they are so good!!!! ($3 for a box of 6) Alcohol is also really cheap here... I think a bottle of vodka was about $10!!! (cheaper than Australia duty free!)
Girls from Australia... a word of advice... if you love make-up and skin care GO TO CVS! The newest Loreal foundation that costs $35 in Aus was about $14 there!!!!!
Anyway, enough about the fabulous pharmacy... about 5 minutes in the opposite direction from the hotel is Subway and Pizza Hut... great options for a quick dinner! There is also a couple of other places near there thatwe didn't go to. In the CVS pharmacy direction there was a shop that had sandwiches and healthy looking food and also an IHOP (international house of pancakes) where we had dinner the night we got into LA. The chicken tender thingys were so yummy!
From the hotel, you can walk to the Beverly Centre. It is about a 30 minute walk so you may want to taxi it but my friend and I didn't mind. There was heaps of cool stuff here.... I bought loads of stuff in Victorias Secret (gorgeous stuff!!) A gorgeous Juicy Couture bracelet in (i think) Bloomingdales and a fragrance gift set from Macys. Again, girls, fragrance works out so much cheaper here!! Guess
bags were also fantastically cheap - around $50-80 (they are around $120-$150 here!) so there is heaps of fantastic stuff to buy there!
Another spot we went to a few times from the hotel was Hollywood Blvd (Graumans Chinese Theatre, Walk Of Fame etc) we got there by taxi which cost between $12-$22 depending on the traffic. There is lots of fantastic shops along Hollywood Blvd, loads of souvenir shops.... we were even lucky enough to see Will Smith filming there! We also saw Johnny Knoxville shopping!
We also took a taxi to Universal studios from the hotel... around $25-30 each way. This worked out really well because tours left the park at around 6pm but it doesnt shut until 9pm. The park gets much quieter around 8pm and when the park shuts you can shop on Univeral Citywalk. We didnt get home until around 11:30pm!
We were really pleased with the hotel, the location was great and the room was pretty big and everything was comfortable. The only complaint I would have was the lighting in the room... it was also the same in our Vegas hotel... there are no lights on the ceiling, just about 5 or 6 desk/standing lamps so the room seemed a little dark. Other than that, great!!
Feel free to ask me questions about the hotel or the places we went too!!!! There really is just too much to write into a review!
