This is a charming hotel on the Sunset Strip -- quiet yet right in the middle of things. Unless you have $350+/night to spend on a hotel, I can't imagine a better place to stay in LA.
I chose this hotel because of reviews on this site, so was prepared for the renovations and the environmental irresponsibility of the plastic cutlery and styrofoam plates for breakfast, which are out of sync with the charm of the rooms and a Green world. (The workers doing the renovations were not wearing any protective gear and are working in unventilated spaces.) But there is no denying that the poolside rooms are lovely. How can anyone not want a hotel room in LA in which you open French doors onto an interior courtyard draped with bougainvillea in order to take a dip in a decent-sized pool?
As another reviewer noted, the pool is not heated but I found that a good thing: the courtyard was steaming hot when I was there, and the pool very refreshing. There is also plenty of well-designed pool furniture for lounging. And the bed was unbelievably comfortable. I overheard another guest on the phone (out by the pool) describing hers as the "most comfortable bed I've ever slept in in my life!"
I would like to stay here again -- and to recommend it to friends -- but worry that the policy of plastic cutlery, ETC. (which extends to plastic cups in the room) -- suggests that management is cutting corners. I suspect that this will bring down the quality over time. The reception staff (for example) were very perfunctory in their duties, and are certainly not actively cultivating good customer relations. I found this *so* odd because with a little managerial T&C and vision this hotel could be *the* boutique hotel of LA. Here's hoping that the management and staff have what it takes to keep this lovely oasis on track!
