“Great Hotel!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2009

I was amazed at how nice this hotel was. The guest rooms were huge. Bigger than any I've seen. They had a kitchenette area, two queen sized beds and lots of room. Every part of the hotel was kept very well and very clean. The courtyard/pool area was beautiful.

I travelled to LA with my 18 year old to celebrate her birthday. We were only there for 3 days and wanted to see as much as possible. This was a great spot to base ourselves out of. Our room was not in the greatest location even though I had requested a pool side room. We ended up down in the lower level with a view of the road behind the hotel. It was really ok for us though as we hardly spent any time in the hotel except to sleep.

The continental breakfast was fabulous with a great variety of items to pick from...waffles, croissant, cereal, eggs, toast, fruit! It was more than enough to get us started in the morning.

We had rented a car which was great as our time there was limited...parking is $12/night with in and out privilages...and it is a self park. This was the most reasonable parking we saw at any hotel...most of them have mandatory valet which is expensive and also requires some tipping. So this was the best arrangement for us to stay on our budget.

Sunset is a great street to use as a base area...it leads all the way to Santa Monica to the west and leads you right downtown to the east. Sunset, Santa Monica, and Wilshire were our east/west bearing streets with La Cienega, Fairfax and Highland for north/south. It is actually pretty easy to get around in this area which surprised me...traffic was really never that bad and it was quick to get wherever we wanted to go. It took only 20-25 minutes to get down to Santa Monica and another 15 minutes to Malibu.

Our room at the back lower level of the hotel was really easy and quick to get to from the parkade on the back road...we had a key to get in the private gate and were right at our room from there. The pool area really was beautiful and I would love to stay here again and enjoy relaxing by it. The front desk staff were friendly and gave info on things to see in the area. As someone else noted....the air conditioner was very noisy but we were so tired everynight that we slept through it. But I can understand there concern. Also, as we faced the back of the hotel, there really was no noise at night.

We walked around the Strip and never felt in any danger....this area is a pretty nice part of Sunset. The further east on Sunset you go, the more it gets a bit trashy and there are more panhandlers etc. We were never approached or bothered by anyone. It was a great trip and we really enjoyed this hotel.

For us this hotel was excellent - very central to all the strip nightlife with well sized, smart rooms and cheap parking. The pool was also nice, although the sun disappeared early!

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Sunset Plaza in May this year. Its on the "Strip" but still really quiet. We had a room which opened out onto the pool area. We especially loved this because we could sit out there in the afternoon with a drink right outside our room and chat to the other guests. The room was really nice too, super comfy beds! Free continental breakfast and internet. Pretty good location, we had a car though so I cant comment on the public transport nearby... Check out the Saddle Ranch Chop House across the street, we had dinner there a few times. Would definatley recommend this hotel, but make sure you get a room overlooking the pool!

The actual hotel was adorable. It has a real 'old Hollywood' feel about it, with old fashioned chairs and decor in the reception area, and a gorgeous patio and pool area with a gazebo and loads of climbing flowers everywhere. The view towards the ocean is impressive. That's pretty much where my love of this hotel ended though, sadly. The room smelt of damp, and we couldn't be moved elsewhere. The air con unit is too noisy to have on at night, so we were uncomfortable during the night. The bathroom was really poorly ventilated so became really hot when you used it. The area, West Hollywood, has tons of bars, restaurants and shops and is a real night spot. The steak house opposite the hotel has a bucking broncho and acoustic musicians that play indie/rock at your table for tips. Service a little hit and miss though. Basing yourself in West Hollywood is good for doing the regular tourist bits like Universal (only 15 minutes away!), Graumann's Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame etc. I wouldn't recommend the tour that the hotel promote though... the guy got a little confused with names on the stars homes tour, and didn't really give any information about LA other than landmarks. We can find those on our map, thanks! There is parking at the hotel, but it's $12 per night.

We stayed here for 3-nights as a part of our 3-week tour of west-USA. We pre-booked on Expedia and got a great deal - noting other comments in Tripadvisor, we requested a quiet room (away from the road) and on the reception level (3rd floor) and this is exactly what we got!
The room was really nice - two beds, a kitchen area and a view over the pool. The pool was a great asset to the hotel - towels are provided at the pool.
Parking is $12 per day, but considering where the hotel is, it's good value!
Ice machines are located on the 4th and pool-level floors. There is a laundry service, but we didn't make use of it.
No restaurant in the hotel but we did make use of "Carney's" across the street one night (fast food outlet in a rail carriage!) and "The Chop House" on another night for a more substantial meal!
Overall we thought that this was a great hotel - well priced, great location for exploring LA, and the pool was a fab way to end a busy day! Would definitely recommend.

This is a really nice hotel. Very quiet for it's location. The location was excellent and just across the road from the hop on hop off tourist bus. Really nice places to eat around however the hotel lacked a bar and restaurant. The breakfast was very nice. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The hotel also had free wifi which was a bonus. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool was very nice and was really quiet. The only downside to the pool area is that it doesn't get much sunlight, it is shaded by one side of the hotel building. The kitchen area in the room was very useful as was the fridge. Would stay here again if I were to visit LA.
