We came here for out second time to stay for two nights and celebrate my wife's birthday. We chose a garden bungalow and enjoyed every minute. We were greeted in our room with a warm note, a bottle of chilled champagne and personalized stationary.
The Garden Cottage was a living room / kitchen / bedroom / bath - simple classic tile bathroom and kitchen with older retro appliances and lots of operable windows. We slept each night with our widows open and did hear neighbors one night talking outside at 4am but they would get quiet by the time you felt like getting up to go tell them to be quiet. We were amazed at how quiet and relaxing and cool it was with the windows open. We did close the courtyard windows when we left the room to secure it.
All staff (valet / front desk / wait staff / housekeeper) we encountered was first rate though we chose to spend most of our time in our room, by the pool, or away from the hotel. We enjoyed one dinner in the garden which was good but not as memorable as the the last time we stayed here - we seemed to end up being seated along the garden entry area which is less desirable than other areas. Last time we stayed we had lunch in the garden and could barely hold a conversation as there were so many lively tables around us - Last time we also had breakfast in the lobby seating area which was a nice experience - felt like being a guest in someone's home.
We enjoy: The large room near the lobby of the hotel with several seating areas - this can be a place to eat breakfast, a place to have a drink, or a place to hang out. The pool was heated and I believe salt water - the area around the pool as well as the grounds with a few seating areas is very lush and very private - there is even a ping pong table. There is also a work out area on the 7th floor tucked under the roof which seems seldom used but is adequate for a good workout.
We are fascinated by the history of this hotel, its original design and how it has evolved over time into the beautiful place that it is while maintaining high levels of service for every guest. Also that it pulls off so successfully being immensely private & quiet while managing to be located on the Sunset Strip! We hope to keep coming back for special occasions.
