I lived in LA for 3 years and when I'd go out with friends in the Sunset / West Hollywood area I'd stay at the Grafton (to avoid drinking and driving).

Most recently I stayed at the Grafton Thu 1/4 through Sat 1/6 and had a great experience. The entire staff: everyone from valet parking, bellhop, front desk etc was very helpful and courteous at all times. Wake-up calls, carrying baggage to the room, maid-services were all handled without a hitch. The lobby, pool and common areas are very chic. The room was clean and comfortable as well as very modern and fashionable.

I was there on a weekend so yes, there was some noise until 1 or 2am (not a huge amount but probably more than would be acceptable at your run-of-the-mill chain hotel) but remember this is the heart of SUNSET BLVD! You are surrounded by some of the hottest clubs, bars and restaurants on the planet - that's why you're here. Obviously if you're looking for a quiet escape or a strictly business hotel then this probably isn't the place for you. But if you're out to have some fun and then, at the end of the night, get some rest before you put in another day of work then the Grafton is perfect.

The hotel's restaurant, BOA, is all-around excellent. Certainly there are cheaper places to eat, arguably other steak houses offer better value but again you are at the middle of Sunset. BOA's combination of food, service, decor and general ambiance makes it a destination in and of itself even for LA residents.

I look forward to staying at the Grafton again soon.

  • Liked — Proximity to bars, restaurants and clubs
  • Disliked — Small rooms, some noise.
  • Tips/Secrets: — To avoid noise, ask for a room on the bottom floor, courtyard facing.

We stayed at this place over the weekend during December. As a whole, we really enjoyed our stay. We arrived well before normal check-in time expecting to just leave our luggage. We were however told a room would be ready for us within 15 min (and it was). Our room was very nice with king bed (as requested) and plenty of space. The bathroom was huge and really nice and clean. Our room was showing its age a little (it wasn't brand new) but was well kept and we had no complaints. The hotel is in a great location, close to plenty of places to see, eat and drink, ranging from trendy and expensive to cheap diners. At about $170 per night, we were quite satisfied.

Our only complaint would be the NOISE due to being a weekend. Our room was on the same level as reception and same side as the Skybar next door. Music and the roar of the crowd could be heard clearly until about 2am. I beleive this is just part of the hotel and if you are staying over the weekend and must have a quiet room, try somewhere else (just be warned and don't come back complaining about management's lack of empathy - its the Sunset Strip!)

  • Liked — Nice clean room, excellent location
  • Disliked — Noise from surrounding properties

Stayed here afew weeks ago, its in a great location, cool bunch of guests and super cheap! I think its a great hotel for a 3 star, its clean, has nicely sized rooms and a great pool. The drinks at the bar are really good too, I had drinks at the Standard and the Mondrian and they did not compare to the Pomegranate martini here! Also like the fact they had a cute little green car that would take you wherever you wanted to go within a three mile radius for free! That was fantastic.
The only thing that really lets it down is the fact that some of the staff at the reception desk speak very little English and do not understand you when you are on the phone making a request. Also they were very bad at passing on messages.
Also the rooms are a little stuffy so had to keep opening the window to get some air. Also took a long time for the hot water to run in the shower.
Apart from that I think this is excellent value for money and can't really complain much as its only a 3 star. Would definitely recommend it if you are young and trendy and want to party on the Sunset Strip! Would definitely go there again!

  • Liked — The location is perfect and it was full of cool people!

I am here right now. I had high hopes as I had just gotten an email about how it is one of the sexiest hotels in the world! From check in there were problems. First of all, they call them view rooms, WRONG, you look at the rooms across the pool which is so far down you can't see it. There is no view here unless you have a corner room. I moved rooms because the phone didn't work and it was 100 degrees and the second room was worse, the headboard fell when I sat on the bed, severing the phone line, though they did fix it promply. They were nice about giving me a ride to a local restaurant but only the valet guy arranged that. When I called downstairs about a cab they just said there were plenty on the street, not even asking me where I was going. When I got home I ordered a movie, which did not work, jumping all over the screen. When I called they said too bad, they would credit me but not their problem, probably the provider's fault. For everything a very blaise attitude, doesn't work for me! Never again!

I really enjoyed this hotel especially the location!

My friend and I planned a weekend trip to LA and were not too sure where to stay. Last time I stayed at the Days Inn on Sunset and was completely repulsed by the place. Another time I stayed at the Farmers Daughter and although I liked it there I wasn't crazy about the location. A friend of mine referred me to the Grafton and the price was right so I booked it!

Upon arriving we were treated with excellent customer service by the front desk staff. As a matter of fact they were kind to us throughout the stay. They made a reservation for us at Koi one night and they helped me find a place to get my tire fixed. Also the valet staff was very friendly and fast!

Our room was nice and quiet...It was down one floor with no view. We did not request a view because we planned on sightseeing and partying the whole time. We are in our mid 20's and this hotel is in a prime location! We got drinks at the BOA lounge, checked out Sky Bar (next door) and hit up a couple other clubs on Hollywood Blvd. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to get a the whole Sunset experience for a decent price!
