We stayed in a large, single room. This place is diffcult to find because there are only two, huge doors standing in front of this hotel.

The lobby area is phenomenal. Very artsy. The elevators look nice, but you really have to look around to find the buttons to push in order to get the elevators down to the ground floor.

Service: excellent. most staff members were well-trained. no attitudes.

Food: Asia de Cuba. Ouch. The food is overspiced to a point where you can't even taste the original flavors of the ingredients used. Price - well, it's a hotel so can't complain. Service was excellent. Awesome waiters who are really attentive to your every need.

Room: Let's say it has a European flair. Some may say they need to be remodeled. I do agree, but not everything has to be perfectly clean. The sheets were very clean. Carpet was soiled, but not a problem for me. Nice view of Sunset strip.

Bathroom: for a $300plus/night room, this is a disgrace. it looks like it's from the 70s.

Amenities: T-shirts, caps, and other stuff are for sale.

This hotel is nice to stay for the experience, but I probably won't return.

The Mondrian staff made us feel very welcomed. Our room was Amazing. The view was incredible. Our trip to the Skybar lived up to the hype. It had an exclusive feel to it,even though everyone we saw trying to get in... got in. If your going to stay on Sunset and you want to feel like a part of the L.A. scene, the Mondrian delivers...but you gotta pay to play. Not cheap.

My husband and I have stayed at the Mondrian several times over the past couple years. We stay in the suites because the rooms are so small. We request the same room because we have experienced rooms of lesser quality than others. However, the service at the Mondrian is like no other. The service at the Mondrian is better than the Ritz. My husband is an early riser. He will go to the lobby to get a paper. If they do not have a paper, they will find him a paper, or anything he requests. They treat us with such respect and we are your most casually dressed person you would expect to hang out there. The reviews about needing to be dressed a certain way is not true. As my husband and I do not keep up with the trends of today. The staff at Asia de Cuba, Sky Bar, Security, Valet and Bell are the best trained ever. Last weekend my husband and I tried to get reservations because we were going to be in West Hollywood. We were not able to get a room at the Mondrian so we stayed at the Chamberlain West. It is located below Sunset Plaza. The rooms have recently undergone renovation and were much nice and less expensive then what we pay for a suite at the Mondrian. I think it might be time for renovations at the Mondrian. We pay $425 a night at the Mondrian for a suite smaller than the room we stayed in at the Chamberlain and we only paid $259 there. Our bed was brand new with white goose down comforter and pillows all fresh and clean. My husband and I spent most of our time in bed. He wants to go back to the Chamberlain in December.

Management response from TarynGEM, Guest Experience Manager
(Management representative)
Nov 23, 2008
Mondrian has recently undergone a 35 million dollar refurbishment with our re-launch taking place in September of 2008. We have totally renovated and redesigned all 237 of our guest rooms which now include flat screen TV’s, IPOD Docking Stations, business desks, hardwood flooring, rain showers and some rooms with Jacuzzi tubs. As well we have introduced new mattresses, terry, linen and robes.

In addition we have completely replaced our heating/air conditioning system and all plumbing in the hotel. As we are centrally located in the heart of the Sunset Strip we also installed double-paned sound proof windows in all of our guest rooms.

As SKYBAR continues to be one of Hollywood’s best nightspots and Asia De Cuba restaurant still serves up some of the best cuisine around, we are happy to introduce our new destination bar/lounge, ADCB. Asia De Cuba Bar is located in our main lobby and includes a brand new tapas and sushi menu.

Whether you had an awesome visit or not so great experience with us before, we are confident you will love us now

I was so excited to stay here until I arrived. We had a very large room, but there were stains all over the carpet. The room looked very outdated. I found the staff to be rude. The front desk didn't answer the phone. The Sky bar is nice, but extremely loud when you want to get some sleep. It is a scene, but I can't believe they get away with charging the amount of money they charge. For the same money, you could be treated like luxury. The second night of our stay was a private party outside by the pool. We couldn't enjoy the pool the whole afternoon/ night, as they were setting up- how ridiculous.

As soon as I walked in I fell in love with The Mondrian... I believe I even got the chills.. or maybe that was because I saw Jessica Simpson wandering the grounds of Sky Bar. I had a Junior Suite on the 10th floor and really loved the size of the room. For an urban city, The Mondrian's rooms were surprisingly large... and I've stayed at several Ian S. hotels already. Yes, it's expensive... I believe I paid over $330 nite... BUT I booked the trip so last minute (as in less than 12 hours before!) that I believe I was pretty lucky to get the rate/room that I did. The only thing I have to say is that I do think the rooms need an upgrade... Mondrian's bathroom seemed a little dated with a sliding glass door (I've stayed at the new Hotel Vitale in SF and fell in love with their large soaking tub and separate Japanese style showers... AND the tub had an amazing view of SF!) and the sink was on the older side. I also did not like the vanity lighting... flourescent lighting just does not compliment anybody. On top of that I believe the cleaning service used the wrong linens: I found a few drops of blood which was incredibly disgusting/disturbing. I also wanted ice to chill my bottles of champagne, but they did not provide that. Other than those few disturbances I thoroughly enjoyed myself... I had a nice balcony/patio area overlooking the pool and never had any problems getting into Sky Bar with 8 of my other friends. You can't beat the location and the feeling of being treated like a princess. It's my new goal to check out ALL the Ian S. hotels.
