“Cool hotel on sunset with a pool and a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

I stayed for work three nights and it wasn't as loud and crazy as the reviews led me to believe.
Yes, the building itself is old so you will hear the neighbors walking around.
But the music and pool area never bothered me.
I was more surprised that there were so few people by the pool/bar at night, even on Saturday.
I stayed in the large poolside room, it was really unnecessary large :)
The staff is a bit to cool for work so don't expect the typical American super happy helper. More like a model wannabe that is counting the hours, but being from a somewhat rude country I didn't mind at all.
The food was nice, location great and I wouldn't mind staying again if the price is right.

Nanononi,
So glad you enjoyed your experience with us and thank you for your candid comment regarding our service. We certainly are a cool and fun environment, but service is our raison d’être; therefore can’t be secondary. We sure are working on it now. Can’t wait to see you again very soon.

The Standard Sunset is an all around great hotel--the I am in LA area often and the hotel staff are extremely accommodating and very friendly. The rooms here are clean, modern and spacious and the poolside bar and scene is always lots of fun--perfect for afternoon or evening drinks, or for email and meetings during the day. Location can't be beat for close access to both the west side and the valley.

A major props to the front desk team for helping me print, sign and PDF some important documents at the last minute last evening.

First impressions were good, check in efficient, lounge comfy and bright, but once arrived in the room, oh my goodness. Although large the pool view room was devoid of any furniture except a bed, a beanbag and a desk with one drawer. There were shelves next to bed and as we were two people staying a week, we needed more than one tiny drawer and four hangers on a rail to store our clothes. The shower room was tiny with nowhere to unpack our toiletries, but did contain the minibar! We should have been alerted by the single pair of earplugs on the nightstand, but sadly we have more than one ear each so listened to the noise and music coming up from the pool area until about two thirty am. Managed a bit of a dose and then the person in the room above us decided to rise early at 4am and proceed to tap dance and maybe do a few Irish jigs right through until sunrise. Breakfast was pretty good if exorbitantly priced and we followed this with enquiring about getting a room move so that we could: a) sleep and b)unpack our suitcases. This sadly was unobtainable so we checked out after spending an hour by the quite poorly maintained swimming pool (flaking plaster and water a very pale green).

For three hundred dollars a night the standard is very poor value and I have stayed in similarly furnished low cost motels in France for about twenty euros a night. Lots of trendy beautiful people posing, but you get that everywhere on the Strip. If you must stay here get a room facing the road on the top floor and you may be able to sleep.

Room Tip: Top floor facing ride for quieter room

If you're sporting some ironic facial hair, riding a fixie bike, have some retro tattoos, play the uke, and think a performance art fishtank above the reception is HILARIOUS, then this is the place for you! You'll love hanging out with your Hollywood hipster friends by the pool until the small hours. You revel in enjoying the witty ironic references. Oh, look the sign's upside down! Ha ha ha ha that's soooooo crazy! Plus points: Staff VERY nice (and hip) and the dinner's good too.

If you need to sleep/go to work/not be a hipster. Stay elsewhere. My fault entirely.

I've been staying at The Standard Hotel for more than two decades as I've covered the LA scene for Rolling Stone and Esquire. The staff is chill and always helpful, the location is golden, the beds are comfortable and the balconies have amazing views; the artsy, retro, minimalist ethos of the place suits my less-is-more sensibilities, as well as those of my college-age son. The Standard Coffee Shop might well be the best hotel coffee shop ever. If you want a quiet room, ask for one.

Room Tip: if you want a quiet room, ask for one

The Standard Hotel is one of the best hotels to stay at on the Sunset Strip! Their eye for customer services sets it way above its competators. It is the team that works at this hotel that makes it so amazing! Well Done

Room Tip: Any room is great!

This Hotel is a bit hip and happening, performance art in the fish tank behind reception was novel. The room were lovely, the mini fridge amazing and all of the staff looked after us. The downstairs diner was a great place to have breakfast. The corridors are blue lit with shag pile carpet, yuk! If you are arriving on an early flight and are jet lagged make sure you have organised an early check-in, we had been driving/flying for 36 hours so was in no mood to be told I had to wait from 8.30 am until 2.00 pm. We had a minimal wait and enjoyed the rest of our stay.
