5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

My sister and I stayed in LA for 6 days at the end of a big US/Mexico trip and we were not disappointed in finishing our trip at The Standard West Hollywood!!!

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, we selected The Standard based on its great location and its value for money and The Standard delivered!

As we were staying for a relatively long time and were at the end of a big trip, we selected an X-Large room and it really was X-Large! The room was quite minimalist, but it was perfectly spotless and had a lovely comfortable bed - and plenty of room for our big suitcases and all the stuff we had accumulated after 4 weeks travelling!

The hotel surroundings were cool and quirky - I really felt a 50s kind of LA beach style, which I really loved. The pool was a real scene and great for people watching, with lovely cocktails and beautiful views of LA. After big days of sightseeing and all the hussle and bussle of LA, it was nice to be able to come home, relax and cool down with a cocktail and a swim.

The staff were attentive and professional, but not overly friendly, which was fine.

The restaurant was also great - we enjoyed breakfast there every morning and I have to say that the heurvos rancheros is the best breakfast I have ever had and I would return to LA just to have that!

Perfect location for us with the Hop On Hop Off bus stop very close by on Sunset Boulevard (which we used for sightseeing and as our transportation) and all the shops/restaurants in Sunset Boulevard were very close too.

A wonderful way to end a wonderful holiday! Loved The Standard, loved LA and loved the USA! God bless America and I hope to return as quickly as possible!

We stayed here with our 2-year old and enjoyed it overall. The first night our room was on the first floor of the courtyard facing the pool but with no real view. There was an outdoor speaker bolted on to our balcony, playing music loud enough that it was hard to take a nap. We asked to be moved, but the only other room available was right above the lounge -- even louder. They were very nice about it and upgraded us for free the second night to a larger room facing south east (towards downtown), which was very quiet. Glad we stayed here at least once.

Room Tip: Noisy except for rooms facing south east.

The Standard on West Hollywood carries the same name as all the other Standar hotels (Miami & New york ) and yet it fails to disappoint.

The rooms are barely furnished, the carpets are filthy (particularly in the corridors)
The food in the bar was very mediocre...

Why oh why this hotel even bears the same name as the others...?

We were kindly deducted our bar bill from the final tab .. but rest assured I am not going back!

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs

Dear TEREHDEC,

We thank you for taking the time to give us your honest feedback. Our goal is to exceed the expectations of our guest while maintaining the individual feel of each property and its location. Seems you were in one of our spacious X-Large rooms with the great view of the Los Angeles skyline and our pool deck. Additionally our bathrooms have just been recently upgraded with rain shower, organic bath products, cork tiles and stylish hardware. I am sorry that we our design aesthetic did not fit your individual taste. However, I am happy to hear that our front desk agent took care of your dinner check from our Poolside Café; I hope you enjoyed our food and drinks. The next time your travel brings you back to West Hollywood, we hope you’d stop by for a bite.

I much prefer this Standard location over any other. While the downstairs club scene on weekends can be a bit bogus and the seceney vibe a bit obnoxious, the location is killer and some of the rooms I've stayed in are very spacious and comfortable. I love the rooms that face southeast (not the pool) as youre a bit elevated and get nice daylight. I think the diner is great downstairs. Bathroom products, showers and toilet setups in this hotel are nice. Lighting fixtures are nice, closet space plentiful. Staff and hotel business services are all helpful. Valet not the best, but this is a pretty trafficked hotel. Walking distance to a few things on the strip and Chateau Maramount which is always nice for a drink.

Room Tip: Southeast corner rooms have the best views and daylight.

The Standard is ok but nothing special and some things will annoy you. Decent-sized rooms, but no coffee/tea making facilities so prepare to pay $8 for room service tea (Starbucks across the road is handy). No safe in the room either, but you get a minibar. Very noisy in the evenings from the strip. No fitness/spa. Ok restaurant on site serving diner-style food. Ridiculously overpriced valet parking: $33 per night! Staff are all very helpful though and there usually is something going on in the lounge. All in all, I'll probably stay somewhere else next time I'm in town.

Dear Monika P,

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am sorry you find the traffic noise on Sunset Blvd. unbearable. We offer rooms on the south side of the building which has a great view of Downtown Los Angeles and are located away from noise disturbance of Sunset Blvd. As you might be aware, parking space in West Hollywood, as well as any major cities, is very limited and we are glad to be able to offer parking on-site to our guests. This eliminates the wait time when your car is retrieved from the lot. In efforts of offer fair pricing on our parking, we survey parking rates of the hotels in our neighborhood on a regular basis. We most appreciate your compliment on the service of our staff. We work very hard to provide our guest with great and personalized service.

I stayed at The Standard on a business trip. The hotel location was good and fair priced for West Hollywood. The place has a lively vibe and great to sit outside by the pool for a drink on a hot L.A. day. The mini bar is very well stocked. The rooms were pretty good but a little worn and the staff were a bit too pretentious but overall they were helpful. The restaurant does a great breakfast with very friendly staff.

Am I that old fashioned to think that I am staying in a hotel to sleep? The Standard Hollywood has a nice restaurant and is a nice spot to have a drink next to the pool but it is one of the most terrible hotels I ever stayed. The worst is the noise, as there is no phonic insulation, nowhere.
I first stayed on first floor, in a room facing Sunset Blvd. When I mentioned the noise to the desk after check-in in the late afternoon, I've been told "it is rush hour". The problem is that the "rush hour" is 24hrs, and facing such a large boulevard you could expect some double glazing... but not at the Standard! Adding the noise of the music coming from the bar made the experience more than terrible and I asked for another room after have declined the ear plugs which were offered to me (so they no that their hotel is terribly noisy!!).
That second room on second floor was quieter indeed, with much less traffic noise. But there was not even a desk in it, so it made it very "easy" to work and do my emails. And then... the noise again. Probably the walls in the all hotel are in cardboard, as I was able to hear the conversations of my neighbors. The worst has been the last night, with the sound of a very loud TV coming from the room above, like if it was in mine. At 2am, it took more than 30 min to the staff to turn that off.
So if you wanna sleep... never go to the Standard.

Dear Monolakke,

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your experience with us. We aim to exceed our guests’ expectation and regret we did not meet yours. We realize that some of our rooms post acoustical challenges but we are continually working to resolve the issue. Rooms facing south boast the great view of Los Angeles skyline and are located away from noise sources. Most of our rooms come with free-flowing work space to accommodate our business travelers. Should your travel brings you back to West Hollywood, please contact us directly and we would be able to accommodate your specific needs. Thank you for taking the time to give us your valuable feedback.
