Well, my darling husband got me a gift certificate for a gift for a one night spa getaway for Warner Springs Ranch. After reading the Trip Advisor reviews I was pretty much set on NOT going! Actually really freaked out as I am used to my spa getaways at places like Hotel Del Coronado and Lake Austin Resort!!!! Well, after months of putting it off I chose this past weekend to "get it over with". I knew going that the rooms were going to be sparse and the service pretty much lacking. Was I pleasantly surprised by my weekend.

First off: The rooms are one step lower then a Motel 6, because they do not even have telephones or televisions. VERY BASIC. But, the way the casitas are situated is actually quite charming and my location was overlooking this little bluff with a gazebo. It is quiet and very relaxing. Unpacked my stuff and loaded up my mini fridge with water and juice. I took a walk around the property and was instantly reminded of my childhood at sleep away camp in Wisconsin! Went to dinner, which was nothing special, but my waitress was very friendly and sweet. Back to the room for reading, a look at the stars and then to sleep. I slept very well, and was woken by the chirps of birds outside building their nests in the eaves of the building. A very nice way to wake up.

A quick coffe before heading over to the spa...and wow! What a fantastic treatment I got from Stacey! A salt scrub, sea kelp wrap with head and scalp massage, then a full body massage. Total bliss. The spa is not fancy, but with treatments like this you don't need it! I was floating out the door...such a nice experience!

This would be a fantastic place to take your kids, and to totally "unplug" for a while. Julian is right around the bend, and there is so much "natural" fun to be had. Keep your expectations within reason...this is out past Ramona, so it is not going to be like La Jolla! You will find a peaceful and low key setting, and a bit of nostalgia. I am looking forward to going back with my family next year.

alright so i just talked to the manager of the ranch in which she specifically told me " i am not going to give you your deposit back, [--] that" and hung up on me... now that is not the kind of costumer service im looking for specially when im trying to make a trip in the other side of the country. the reason i asked for my deposit back was because i made a reservation to spend the day there now i specifically told him that i wasnt going to spend the night there, but that i was going to spend the day there. which they told me they didnt have day passes that what i could do was rent a room and just come up the next day. that was bs the manager now tells me that i cant spend the day there becuase i didnt check in to the room before midnight. after being cursed and attacked over the phone by the manager i decided that i wasnt going to argue with her for she didnt seem to be a person you could reason with. so i just asked for my deposit back since it was HER FAULT that she mislead us with false information and that is when she practically told me to go [--] myself. so to wrap this up this is by far the worst costumer service i experienced. even mcdonalds shows more class and appreciation for their costumers than this place.

“Relaxing beautiful Warner Springs Ranch”

This is a very unique place to stay! The grounds and surrounding areas are beautiful. The cabin that we stayed in was nothing fancy but was clean and plenty large for our family of four. The pools are great - the hot pool is extremely relaxing. It is natural hot springs water so it has a sulpher smell and is not clorinated. You need to be prepared for that but it is so much more relaxing than a chlorinated hot tub. The other pool is a regular swimming pool. The pool area manages to be both kid-friendly and very peaceful, which is hard to find.

The equestrian center was great! The people running it were friendly and helpful. The woman who gave lessons to my young daughters was great with kids and really taught them a lot in just a 1/2 hour lesson.

In addition, the food was good and there is hiking and tennis. The service in the restaurant was not always the friendliest, at least initially, but usually our server ended up being quite helpful. We weren't given the right information about breakfast on the friday we were there (we had the breakfast package) so if you go, you should check to see if breakfast is going to be served at the restaurant so that you don't have to go across the street to the Golf Grille but other than that, we had a wonderful trip there and we will definitely return!

This is a great and easy get-away! They offer package options so that
the you can enjoy your time without dealing with the scheduling once
there. Yes, you will be spending some money, but over-all, it's the
right charge. I used this as a suprise get-away for my boyfriends
31st birthday and it was perfect. I chose the glider package, and
although I found the Glider company a bit challenging to get ahold of
from the compound, it was a perfect choice. Don't rely on your cell
phone (although I have Verizon and found it worked fine, my boyfriend
has Sprint and he was dead to the world). The rooms are sparse, but
they give you a fridge and fireplace and that's more than I was
hoping for. It's chilly and there is NOTHING more romantic than a
fire on a cold night sipping chilled champage! No phones and no
internet, however there are places where they can be used so if you
want your e-mail, go ahead and bring your computer.
They have golf, horse back riding, walking and hiking trails, the
afore mentioned Glider rides and natural hot springs (which are
wonderful, although I must say, they're sulfer heat so this is NOT
the place for you if you are expecting the smell of lilcas and
jasmine lingering in the air... eggs or farts, that's the choice :)
but you can't have everything, can you?)
I didn't try the spa, that was a little too much money for me, but
there is one there. This place is nice, it's not great, but it's very
nice. They need to work a little bit on the rooms, a little bit on
some of the landscaping and then it can be a higher rating. However,
if they did that, the price might go up, and it's not worth that!

Glider ride is a MUST!

    • Liked — Fireplace in the hotel room and the wood they gave us as well as the package option with a glider flight
    • Disliked — sulfer does not smell pleasant, but you can get away from it. I also think the rooms could be a little nicer in decour

Warner Springs is a lovely historic resort with truly the most fabulous hot spring pool area. The place is a mixed bag in many ways. That hot spring pool on a chilly night is wonderfully relaxing and the well-run spa provides pretty good facials and massages. The ranch itself is lovely with little cottages offering crafts for kids and very pretty hiking trails. There is horseback riding available, golf, and even glider planes for the adventerous. The rooms are very plain but servicable and you'll find that in the final analysis, no tv or phones become a blessing.

Every good time has its price though. The ranch is basically a timeshare that is not setup for your average hotel guest. There is little to no staff. You are on your own. You could see that as a blessing or a curse. All of the above mentioned activities are run as separate businesses. Don't expect any coordination from the hotel. Most troubling of all however is the Anza Dining Room. The service is shockingly bad and the food, well lets just say it doesn't make the service worth it. Avoid dinner at The Anza it at all costs if you want to maintain the relaxation garnered from the pool and spa. Breakfast at the Anza is doable (buffet style).

As is mentioned in other posts, the bar closes early and, well the resort is usually not particularly crowded. You're there to detox people, not hook up and party. Don't go if you're looking to socialize with someone other than ther person you're with.

Despite all of this, my sister and I find ourselves going to WS at least once a year. For us, the price is right and the experience is what you make it. We bring plenty of snacks, sandwich makings, and drinks for the room (small fridge is available) and generally drive to Julian for a nice dinner experience. I would even suggest bringing toilet paper (can you tell this is experience talking?).

The facilities are really wonderful and truly worth the drawbacks. Just come prepared to avoid the need for any staff support and you're golden.
