“As Good As The Locals Said It Would Be”

We ate at this restaurant on 8/3 for dinner. We flew in for some business from Orange County. One person in our group lived in Visalia for most of his life, while another lived in Fresno. They both said the food there was nothing short of world class. While it was really good, there are many restaurants better for the price and service... the problem is, none of them are in Vislaia. I would highly suggest the "VP" to anyone visiting that part of Central California. They have one of the best wine lists for a restaurant of it's caliber. I would think it's a great date or special occasion restaurant in you want to impress. As someone who has dined in some of CA's best restaurants, I would rate the "VP" as one of the top 25 in CA, but the best in the Central San Joaquin Valley.

“Poor service”

My wife and went to the Vinage Press for dinner on a Sunday night at 9:00 PM in March 2007. There were only 2 other tables occuppied. Our food server was a female and was pleasant and polite, but lacked the training and / or motivation we were expecting. When the main course was delivered we did not see her again until we were about half done. My water glass remained empty for sometime. Then, at about 9:50 (The Restaurant closes at 10:00) she started comming to our table every 5 min. The food was excellent but due to the lack of quality service we would never go there again.

My wife and I went there on business (yes, I know) so were only there for one night. We walked over to another restaurant and was terribly disappointed so we drove a couple blocks and found the Vintage Press.

When we travel, we normally like to sit at the bar and have a cocktail. It's amazing how you can get a feel for a place by doing this. You see the attitude of the hostess, bartender, and the patrons. The first place just made us feel like they couldn't care less about us. The Vintage Press however was the complete opposite. Excellent staff attitude and service.

So, we had a glass of wine and an appetizer (mushrooms) at the Vintage Press bar. Oh man. It was so good we decided to stay and have dinner, which was also superb. The decor of the place is also spectacular. The attention to detail and cleanliness of the place is top notch.

You know we are from Los Angeles area and we have tons of good restaurants but we both agreed that this is one of the best restaurants we have been to in a long while. In fact, a friend of ours is a chef and we have discussed driving up for the night just for the dinner. We know he would be impressed.

The icing on the cake is that the prices are pretty reasonable as well. We wish we could get this level of service in LA.

So, a big thumbs up on this place!

My husband and I recently took a trip back to our home town of Visalia. We decided on the Vintage Press for that "one special dinner." The food was cooked perfectly, the wine selection was wonderful, and the restaurant still held all of the charm we remembered. What an evening!!

The vintage press has always been recommended as a place to dine when in the central valley. But, I'd recommend people to steer away and try somewhere else.

Saturday night (3/18/06).
I had the mushroom soup. Delicious. This I would highly recommend. I then had the special "seared ahi tuna". MY definition of seared is gently cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. Mine was cooked all the way through. I had to send it back. Upon return, it was ordered and good. Other diners had their meats over cooked too.

And then the dog. Yes a dog. A patron at another table brought in their dog. Ok, it had a coat on, but a dog in a high class restaurant? And they walked the dog through the entire restaurant. (health concerns??) I don't know what people were thinking, but I sure did loose my appetite.

There are other restaurants in the central valley worth trying. You can skip the Vintage Press.
