not very impressed. Ordered noodles were okay and the sushi.....
Gozen has very good sushi. Lots of variety and they even have great options for vegetarians.
The restaurant atmosphere was nice and it was fun watching the sushi chef prepare the food...however, that is about all. Food was okay, prefer Tachibana's in Visalia, it was anything special. We had chichen bowls and some tempura vegies for almost $60! For Sixty bucks I want to be wowed! Maybe the sushi is good...don't know. Ordered some cake, it was fried cheesecake...waited over 40 minutes for it and it was a very small small portion...and nothing to write home about. The waitress said "It is our best dessert" the other was ice cream...whatever. Was pissed by the time I left. Won't go back!
We've been to Gozen approximately a dozen times now and it is definitely my wife and kid's favorite sushi place in town (if not just their favorite restaurant in town).
Now, let's get specific. My wife's a huge foodie and wasn't a sushi fan until recently. Now this is often her first choice, especially when going out with our three teenagers.
We really enjoy the Teppanyaki, which is delicious as well as highly entertaining. Especially like the pot stickers that come included with each Teppanyaki meal. The kids actually fight over them. Our two favorite sushi rolls are the Mexican Roll (mine) and the Whammy Roll (wife's), although we haven't had one that's not at least good. Fresh, fresh fish made into creative sushi.
The only thing that we'd like is a bit quicker service.
One of two good Japanese places in town. A good variety of rolls and pretty good (better than many) teppan chefs.
