“What a hidden treasure !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Ok, this place lived up to every single good review I checked before making our reservations. When we checked in there was a cozy fire burning at the front lobby which just looked so cozy and welcoming. Check in was a breeze, the clerk was very friendly and answered all our questions. The restaurant had already closed for the night, but the bar was still open for a night cap before bed to wind down after a fairly long drive up from the coast.

We were just shocked with our room - we had a parking lot entry door, and then a door on the other side of the room exiting into a garden/pool area. We also had sliding glass doors, with full screen, allowing a nice fresh air breeze to come through. The grounds are clearly well cared for, the plants healthy and beautiful. I couldn't believe the roses had such wonderful scent to them ! And the variety of plants kept us interested while we walked to and from the bar on the other side of the hotel. We left our sliding door ajar during the night and the place was very quiet. The beds were as good as any we've slept in.

We were up at 6 am to get an early start on our day trip to see the Giant Sequoias, but stopped in for breakfast at the diner style restaurant. The wait staff were simply wonderful, the food delicious, the coffee great, hot and refilled without even thinking about having to ask for more. We were also really pleased with the prices.

The hotel is older, and there is wear and tear on the property - but our room and bathroom were about the cleanest we've ever seen at a hotel. The cleaning staff here really do a good job, and we actually left a nice tip with a note of thanks to housekeeping for a job well done. Even with the age of this place, it is simply one of the best places we've stayed in a long time and I wish we were going to be in CA longer so we could go back and get one of the small cottage style rooms, which had outside tables and chairs on little patios.

If you need a place to stay anywhere between Bakersfield and Reno, make this stop - you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: Get a garden view room on the ground floor - you'll be happy with them.

We have been on the road 58 days, thru 32 states and covered 11,622 miles and spent most of those nights in motels...we've regularly used Trip Advisor for places to stay/eat...this was truly a treasure and reasonably priced!! Accomodations were older but in excellent condition..nice sized room AND I LOVED that the office worked with us on a ground floor room with access from the parking area and out to the pool on the other side of the room!!
Impreessed with the attached Cafe as well as the GREAT staff @ both!!! Only wish we could have stayed in town longer!! Would definitely recommend to fellow travelers!!!

Room Tip: They all look good for location, and I understand they have some suites!

We have stayed at the Lamp Liter Inn 3 times in the past year. My son lives in Visalia and he recommend the Inn. Its dated yes but the people are friendly, the bed was heaven and always very clean. They have a lovely garden area and the gated pool is wonderful. They have room service also.

Room Tip: we always stay on the lower floors, haven't encountered any bad events yet

Room was clean and comfortable, staff was friendly - willing to hold room if late or make accomodate if check in early. Late check out for late sleepers (12 noon). Price was good for area . Tried Sunday breakfast buffet at Elks lodge next door. Got a lot for $10.00 Overall had good stay.

I bought this room on Expedia and got it for about 60.00. The hotel is old and the walls are very thin, but I had quiet neighbors and really heard nothing after 9:00. If it were in the summer when a lot of people are going on vacation, it may be different. It was very much worth the price of a California hotel where everything is over priced and over taxed.

Room Tip: There's a grocery store within walking distance from this hotel

We spent a night at the Lamp Liter Inn. The rooms we had were a little dated and could use a bit of upgrade. On the other hand, they were clean and for the price, excellent value. What sets this motel apart is the beautiful gardens and large swimming pool. We spend a good part of the afternoon swimming and sunbathing. The location is good with a number of restaurants across the way. Overall a good place to spend a night or two.

Room Tip: Worth getting a garden view.

I have stayed at the LampLiter Inn several times a month for over two years due to business in downtown Visalia. The accomodations are good for the price and the staff is delightful. The location is ideal for business travelers and tourists as it is right off the Freeway. It is quiet, has lovely gardens , pool ,and has an adjacent restaurant that serves excellent , economical food.
