“BEWARE OF THEFT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2010

I failed to read the reviews and learned the hard way. Our car got broken into on Labor Day while we were at the park. We had checked out that morning left the car there and took the shuttle over rather than paying $15 to park the car. On our return we found the car had a smashed window and had been ransacked. Our laptop was stolen with all our kids photos and home videos....no back-up. Apparantly the police did show up as another car had also been broken into. Luckily my parents were with us in a separate car and were able to take the kids home while we cleaned up the glass and taped a garbage bag to the window frame. When I asked the front desk for some tape, I did not think they would have the real heavy duty stuff and the guy at the front desk said "this is what we use" so I asked oh does this happen often.....he took a pause and said "oh no I just know this is what is used for such circumstances". BOLOGNE!!!!! Our stay was pleasant up to this point. With the frequency of cars being broken into it seems that it could very well be an insider job. I thi nk BBB needs to be alerted since the Hotel staff is not alerting their guests about parking the cars at the end of the building.

Wireless is available mostly in lobby; you have to borrow a cord to plug into Internet from front desk and promise to bring it back. Obviously lots of children staying here; had I another choice so close to Napa, I would not have picked a hotel across the street from a theme park. But I can't fault the hotel or that.

We decided to stay here because of how close it was to the Discovery Kingdom Amusement park. That is about the only positive feature of this hotel. Be sure and get your tickets from them, they sell them cheaper than anywhere else online. There is no wireless internet, you have to connect via wire (sort of old school). The front desk computer is worthless with the child nanny software stopping you from visiting Facebook or even Yahoo. The check in time is 3:00, if you show up at 2:45 don't expect to get a room, you will be lucky if you get one at 3:00. There were ants in the bathroom and on the sink outside the bathroom. The noise from people upstairs and in the hallways was crazy each night!!! Not even turning the A/C on full blast could drown out the noise. The pool area was nice and clean. The free breakfast included Costco muffins cut in half, pastries, hard boiled eggs and two waffle makers which everyone was fighting over. The location doesn't seem safe as other reviewers have stated. If I was to visit this amusement park again (which I wouldn't) I would drive further to stay in a nicer place.

The check in was slow. Staff at check in was friendly. This is a pretty busy hotel with lots of kids.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, the pillows were not. The room was clean and well maintained. The sink is outside of the shower and toilet area. Also had a mini fridge, sink and counter area, which was a nice surprise.
The breakfast is held in a very cramped downstairs room. It gets VERY busy in the morning. Only has about 5 tables, very tightly fitted. The breakfast display is squeezed into a small counter area. They offer waffles, cereal, muffins, hard boiled eggs, some fruit. Coffee, tea and juice are available. No water though. When I asked the very busy and frazzeled attendant for water she said I could use the sink water. YUCK! and not a friendly or appropriate response.
The hotel is very close, 5 minute drive, to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The only other hotel we saw close by was the Marriott. Not a lot of food around. One Carls Jr. that is always busy. The hotel is NOT in a good area. The hotel DOES NOT provide adequate security. As this has been mentioned in several reviews, and I am sure the hotel is aware, they have not resolved the problem.
We had a horrible time sleeping because of teenagers hanging out in the halls. We called the front desk and they did sent someone up. Unfortunately, after he left they continued for a while longer, plus some of them were staying in the room next to us. This is the parents fault not the staff. They should have been aware of their children and had consideration for the other families staying at the hotel! Be aware this is not a quiet hotel. Lots of children will be around.

If you are touring around North California (Marin County, tenth richest county in the USA) and need a base to set yourself up try Best Western Heritage Hotel in Benicia. It is situated very close to all ‘must see’ spots and sights such as the Bay Area, Napa Valley, the beautiful Muir Woods, Six Flags, Berkeley and quaint seaside towns of Sausalito and Tiburon. Spacious rooms, a swimming pool and spa to relax in on return you also get a deluxe, complimentary, continental breakfast in the mornings. Once during your stay you get a dinner on the house! The staff is very friendly and service oriented. A coffee machine, hot water and different teas are available round the clock at reception. The beds are really comfortable, the room neat and clean and there is free wireless available in your room. There are also rooms available with whirlpool tubs. A micro wave and refrigerator in the room help out if you need to heat up or store your food. A three diamond hotel it is indeed a place to return to whenever you have work or pleasure in the area. I planned a mini girls only getaway with me, my two daughters ages 13 & 11 and one of their good friends. We are a home school family and had earned 6 free Discovery Kingdom tickets through their Reading for Success program, so I decided we should head to Vallejo. After reading a lot of different reviews we settled on Best Western Inn, I felt it would meet most of our needs. I made reservations online via their web site. I actually got the best deal from them then any other travel internet company. They were offering a online special of only $84 per night for the 4 of us.

We arrived at 1:45pm and while check in is at 3pm we were told our room was ready and we could check in right then. The front lobby is really sweet...over stuffed chairs, some glass tables and large faux potted plants. There is a small business center..which really is a tiny one person desk with a computer and a printer. To the left of that is a small coffee area with 3 or 4 pump style thermos's. We stayed in room 112 which is right down the hallway passed the ice machine and the VERY over priced soda machine. While the lobby is nice and shinny and new looking....sadly the rooms are not. They are showing MAJOR wear and tear. The carpet was stained in many areas, the paint needs to be refreshed, there was a small desk area for your computer and such...BUT they do not have wireless internet in the rooms...but they will loan you a cable to plug in. Warning the internet speed is S L O W, in fact you could pretty much say it C R A W L S. There is a small tv armoire with an older tv..while the hotel has cable it is very, very limited channels. There was a small vanity area right by the front door, with your toilet shower/tub directly across from the vanity area. The bathroom was clean and the shower had decent water pressure. One evening while I was laying in bed reading I looked over at the girls's bed and noticed that the box springs was VERY old, stained, and the ticking was ripped with lots of tiny fabric balls...you know like on a cheap sweater were you get the little balls of fabric that you have to pick off. This discovery did not make me feel very clean, but we were only going to be there for 2 nights so I just closed my eyes LOL.

There were four major reasons we choose this hotel is one for the pool, two for the free shuttle to Discovery Kingdom. With the free shuttle you do not have to pay the $15 a day parking fee Three for the free breakfast and four they advertised being very kid friendly. All four of these reasons were met and or exceeded. The shuttle starts at 10am and goes till 1pm...Then starts back up at 3 till 6pm on the days we were there. You do have to get a shuttle ticket from the front desk for anyone over the age of 12 for the trip back. The shuttle is small and only seats 7 or 8 people at a time..so the morning is very hectic...but we were outside waiting at 9:45 and made the first shuttle each time. We caught the 5pm shuttle back and never had to wait. The drivers were very friendly and made sure you totally understood the hours and where they would pick you up from...gotta love someone else doing the driving. :)

So to wrap up this review here are a few comments/thoughts. There are only 2 restaurants that will deliver to the hotel, but there are many restaurants within a few miles of the property. The hotel does not have an ATM machine, but there was a gas station not to far away that does have one. The soda machines is very pricey so you might want to stop at this gas station and pick up some snacks/beverages and bring them back to your room. The pool closes pretty early, and is ALWAYS full of many children. The breakfast room fills up fact and they only have 2 waffle machines which can get very busy. They also offered mini boxes of cereal, fresh fruit, juices, coffees, boiled eggs, toast and milk..but no meat of any kind. Lastly I wanted to recognize one of the front desk staff...Her name is Hillary. She was very personable and professional. She ALWAYS offered you a greeting...always asked if you needed anything, or if she could do anything for you. She constantly wore a huge smile and made you feel welcomed. On our first night I asked her about any near by restaurants..She asked which ones we were interested in and immediately looked them up on map quest and printed out driving directions. On our second night I asked her about any restaurants that delivered and she again immediately went to her printer and printed out their menus. I wish ALL of the hotels we stay at had their own Hillary...she is a huge positive asset to their hotel.

Would we stay at again?? Under the same exact circumstances, yes. If it was a couples getaway, no. But for what it is, and what they offer it is a nice place. Hope you enjoy your stay.

We arrived at the hotel prior to our check in time. We were told that we could not bring our luggage in, but could leave our cars in the parking lot, and take the hotels shuttle bus to the park. Later on that evening when we returned we got our room keys and went out the the car to get our luggage. The windshield and drivers window had been smashed in and all of our luggage and contents of the car stollen. Upon going back to the front desk to have them call the police, they said that they were aware of our vehicle being broken into (some one had witnessed it) but that the city of Vallejo police would not come out to take a report, and that you park in the parking lot at your own risk. So they essentially assume no liabilty for what happens, and further more had absolutley not sympathy, and could have cared less what had happened. The crooks were so callous that they even stole our kids blankets and teddy bears that they sleep with along with everything else! The rooms at best are mediocre, affordable. But who would want to risk having there personal items stolen, or maybe even the whole care. I do not recommend staying that this hotel, because they will just shrug their shoulders at you in the event that you get robbed too!!!
