Our first time in the charming town of Newhall and nearby Valencia for Theatre "Boeing Boeing" (a very funny show) at The Repertory East Playhouse (an 80 seat intimate Theatre) and dinner at The Social Restaurant and Martini Lounge. We came across this restaurant by way of the Theatre box office. From the outside, you would say "Really?" Non-descript from the outside but the inside takes on a warm and comfortable ambience and is quite welcoming. We were greeted and sat immediately (without reservations on a Saturday night) which we were thrilled with. We started out with some wine by the glass of which there were many choices and resonably priced. For an appetizer we started with the artichoke and escargot. The escargot has a sauce that includes dijon mustard and was good but different than most traditional escargot preparations. The dish was fine but a bit tepid as was the artichoke, so not sure if the food was out a bit too long prior to being served. For dinner we shared both the swordfish picatta and New York Strip pepper steak. The 12 oz steak was cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce was very good. I would have it again. The swordfish was also very good. Classic picatta flavors with capers and some seasoned rice. For dessert, the Red velvet cake was amazing but bring a tribe as the pre-sliced cake is huge. The martini bar is well equipped and was bustling when we were there. Proprietor Patrick Lage is very cordial and was quite active in both the dining room and bar making sure everyone's experience was enjoyable. Service was very good.
