We stayed at the Tallman House on 9/4/2007.
We arrived early afternoon and were greeted very friendly. We stayed in a lower garden room; Room # 7. This room has a small front porch with two chairs and a table and a private deck in the back with lounge chairs, sun umbrella, a soaking tub and an outside shower.
The restaurant is just outside the room in a garden like area between the Tallman house and the Blue Wing Saloon. We dined at the restaurant and the food was very good.
The staff was very friendly and professional (Restaurant and Hotel)
The room was beautiful and clean, very clean! We used the pool and hot tub on premises as well. Towels and drinking water were available in the very nice pool area. Again, everything was immaculate.
The soaking tub on our back deck was a real beauty. We have a hot tub at home but this was a really nice experience w/o the jets going. In the write-up about the hot tub (in the room) you'll find a hint to put a little step stool inside the tub with you. Try it out! I don't want to spoil the experience...it's worth it.
Bottom line: Very beautiful place. Everything we found was immaculate. Even the outside window sill on our front pation did not have any dust!!! Nothing. Very friendly people. They built and maintained this place with a lot of attention to detail. Very luxurious. I will come back here and stay again. Perfect location to start your trip around the lake. We surely fell in love with the Tallman house.

The Tallman Hotel is a wonderful and relaxing place! We spent two beautiful nights there and found the Hotel very accomodating and beautiful. The restaurant next door, The Blue Wing Cafe was friendly and the food was tasty and fresh.

We enjoyed the continental breakfast at the Tallman, which they served in their beautiful dining room. If you want to slow down and relax, this is the place to stay in Upper Lake, CA. Don't forget to tour the lake!

The hotel is pretty and well maintained - but they do have a staffing problem.
Firstly, I made a reservation for 3 nights on Tallman's website and received confirmation. But, I received a phone call later that day telling me that they could only accomodate for 2 nights and didn't understand what happened! We arrived on July 4th and had a reservation for dinner at their Blue Wing Saloon at 7:30pm but the staff told us that, as THEY were all going to Lakeport to watch the firework display, we needed to hurry up and order as they were closing the kitchen at 8:00pm. They in fact closed the restaurant at 8:15pm and left us on the veranda to finish our meal - offering no desserts or drinks, as they had "tallied for the night". The hotel staff also closed the hotel before 9:00pm to go to Lakeport , we could gain access to the lobby with our key, but no satff was there to help us.
As there is only one restaurant in Upper Lake, we again went to the Blue Wing for dinner on July 5th, We arrived at 7:20pm and asked for a table - the restaurant was really busy with a staff shortage problem. We we finally seated at 8:15pm and placed our dinner order which arrived at 9:20pm - appetizers and entrees together. We did complan, and the manageress did aplogize and made no charge for the inedible cold food .
A truly bad experience.

We stayed at the Tallman for my birthday, and it was the best part of our weekend trip to the Clear lake area. Check-in was a breeze and the Garden upper room we booked was beautiful. I loved the veranda that looked out over the garden! It was a perfect place to drink coffee in the morning.

The pool area was intimate and encouraged socializing between pool guests. The hotel provided chilled lemon water, which was a nice touch. They were nice enough to let me bring my continental breakfast back to our room, and painstakingly listed all the movies in their dvd collection for us.

The Blue Wing Saloon next door was the best food we had during our stay...and right outside our door. Sitting in the garden is a must. I loved it, and would like to go back very soon!

We stayed here in April of 2007 and found the accomodation to be top notch. The owners have done a great job of restoring the old building. We stayed in the newer building with the soaking tubs which we used each night. The food at the restaurant was good and the service friendly. For the green minded, check out the Tallman's commitment to the enviornment through solar panels and geo-thermal heating.
