Everything about the Tallman Hotel was perfect. Although the surrounding establishments were a bit run down down the Tallman looked fresh, welcoming, and had lots of character. The room was spacious, well-decorated, and inviting! The bed was incredibly comfortable with soft linens and a wonderful mattress. Every contact with staff was helpful and encouraging. I was personally served warm croissants and scones for the complimentary breakfast. As I was staying for business (and received a great Government rate) I was unable to visit Clearlake, but I would definitely return to Upper Lake just for another stay at the Tallman Hotel.

The Tallman hotel is a beautifully done small hotel, and a great deal to boot.

The Tallman is located in Upper Lake, CA, which is a small town about an hour and a quarter's drive from the northern end of wine country. The town is small, to say the least, but the surrounding area is beautiful, with some up-and-coming wineries and no traffic or congestion whatsoever. The whole area feels remote and provides a sense that you are on a real getaway. The lake itself is quite stunning.

As for the hotel, it is a very well done small hotel, with spacious, attractively furnished and thoughtfully designed rooms. We had one of the new first-floor Garden rooms, which have french doors that open up to a private deck with a Japanese soaking tub, outdoor shower, and lounge chairs. These rooms are unique and luxurious accomodations. The decor is really attractive, done in soothing colors. The toiletries are Molton Brown.

The beds are some of the most comfortable we have ever slept on.

The main areas of hotel, where they serve an adequate continental breakfast and provide free internet access, are beautiful as well.

This region will develop over time and the Tallman will certainly raise its rates. Right now, it is a fantastic deal in a unique, less-touristed area of California. Be one of the first to go. We highly recommend it.

Just returned from an overnight Christmas party venued at the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake. Can't say enough. The woman helping us at check-in was efficient and professional; she walked us to our room and showed us the important things, including the Japanese soaking tub on the back deck. The rooms were spacious and decorated in country boutique. Internet was supposedly available but didn't attempt a connection. Plenty of parking. The overall ambiance was quiet and relaxing. The pool area looked like it would be inviting in the summer, but the cold weather of December made it a no-go zone. The dinner in the "Meeting House" was catered by the Blue Wing Saloon steps away and just beside the Hotel. Our waittress did a great job of taking care of everything for our large, boisterous party and the food was wonderful. The soaking tub on the back deck was perfect for two and a good way to end the evening. The continental breakfast (7:30 am - 10:30 am) in the Hotel's dining room was small but tasty. Read about upcoming intimate dinners with entertainment with well-known musicians. Can't wait to attend one or more of those events! Looks like the Tallman is one our new favorites!

I have been traveling to Lake County, CA for several years now and have been amazed how how it is changing--for the better! Tallman tops the list for positive changes. I ahve stayed at the local Super 8 and the B&Bs in Lakeport, but Tallman is my new home in Lake County. Blue Wing Saloon, the hotel's restaurant has great ribs and fish dishes. The rooms at the hotel are sophisticated, kind of country feel without being cute. Unlike many hotel internet sites, theirs is accurate and the photos actually look like the rooms.

Just returned from spending two nights at the Tallman Hotel during the long July 4th weekend. The hotel, though in the middle of nowhere, is quite lovely. The renovation was wonderfully executed, with an extraordinary eye for detail.

Ate both lunch and dinner at the Blue Wing, which is about 30 feet from the hotel. We were satisfied with the restaurant but would say there are some kinks that need to be ironed out. Just 'fine tuning' stuff. Namely, not all menu items represented actual offerings. Ordered an open-faced pastrami sandwich with 'spicy dijon' which arrived with a very generous serving of very mayo-based room temp. sauce. Also had some issues with kitchen and server consistency. To that I will say 'medium well' is not 'super well'. No big deal but, unfortunate. Prices were really reasonable though and there were very nice beer and wine offerings. Two things we had that we really liked: the Oriental salad on the brunch menu was really fabulous, also, pesto pasta - yum!

The hotel and restaurant are both very quiet and very lovely. While we had an upper garden view room, we took a peek at several others and the historic rooms specifically were straight out of a magazine. Interesting, tasteful, historic, yet very 'of the moment' in terms of decor. The grounds were fabulous. Wonderful herbs and interesting flowers everywhere. The pool was lovely as well. A lot of attention to detail went into the renovation, both in and outside. - Little architectural details abound.

Staff was very accomodating, friendly and helpful. Everyone was professional and courteous.

One thing I would mention is that there is not a whole lot going on in Upper Lake. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Not being from the area, we didn't really have a feel for that prior to flying into Sacramento. While the drive in (about 2 hours) was really beautiful, being from Oregon we were surprised at how unimproved lake county was in general. Not good or bad, just not what we expected. The area is so close to Napa that we were thinking there would be a lot more activity and offerings in the way of stuff to do/see. I would recommend the Tallman highly if you are looking for a quiet, romantic weekend.

There are a few lovely vineyards in the area. Both Ceago and Tulip Hill are very close. Ceago is a lovely place to spend the afternoon with beautiful lavender gardens and lake front tables. Also, a nice fellow at the front desk recommended a lovely hiking spot about 20 minutes away.

We had a lovely weekend at the Tallman Hotel. The weather was HOT outside and the suite was air conditioned and comfortable. The staff is welcoming and gracious. The pool area is nice and suitable for lounging, even in the upper 90 degree weather. The common areas are tasteful. Overall, the experience is head and shoulders above anything else you might find in the Clear Lake area. There are TVs and DVD players in the rooms, so bring your Netflix movies to catch up on at night. WiFi is available in all the rooms, which was good because there isn't great cell connection up there. My BlackBerry worked at the hotel also.

The restaurant next to the hotel (same owners as the hotel) is great and comparable in quality to the hotel itself. And it's open later than most restaurants in the area.

The next time we go back to Clear Lake, this is the only place we'll stay.

Ok...this is a sweet place...but a good example of why not to open until you are ready if you want any repeat guests ever. This spot has great potential but is absolutly not ready for prime time so be warned....

Also...avoid the Blue Wing Saloon..the food is very marginal...and the staff was VERY rude. I will try these places again...but it will be a while...
