This place is a total find. Inexpensive, utterly cushy. Great amenities, the likes of which you usually find at luxury resort hotels. All in a small town package. Keeping this review short due to time but I can state flat out that this is one of the best little hotels I've ever stayed in. Going back for sure!

One note of feedback for the owners: I know your pool maintenance fella is super confident that his 75-76 degree pool heat setting (up to 80 degrees after a day of sun) is warm enough, but it is not. We didn't tell him this, because he seemed so confident in his settings, but we couldn't brave the cold water on either day we were there, and the weather was even sunny and nice! The same seemed to be true for other guests who visited the pool deck as well. If you're going to advertise a heated pool, you need to heat it adequately.

The hot tub, however is wonderful! Nice and deep seats, so you're in up to your neck. Love it!

Tallman Hotel

After reading all the positive reviews on TripAdvisor, my wife and I decided to try the Tallman Hotel. When we entered the suite, we were very pleased. However, that feeling did not last long. First, the wireless internet did not work in our room. Second, the phone to call the front desk did not work, Third, the heater took two hours to heat the room. The staff was very nice, however, they did not offer us any discount for our troubles. Actually, they charged us 0.50 cents per call for local calls that we were forced to make to get a dial-up signal. Also, there was a basket of goodies in the room but you had to pay for everything. In short, Upper Lake is a beautiful area, but next time we will have to find another place to stay.

We stayed in a lower garden room with our own private Japanese teak Ofuro soaking tub. The room itself was very nice, spacious and well appointed. I especially liked the Moulton Brown bath products. The aforementioned soaking tub was absolutely wonderful--the wood gives off a great natural scent and the water felt great. The service at the hotel was professional and friendly. The Blue Wingrestaurant/bar next door was great. My husband liked the tri-tip steak a lot. Upper Lake, CA seems to be an up & coming area. We'll most certainly return to check out the Lake County wineries and to stay at least a couple of nights at the Tallman.

We stayed at the Tallman House on 9/4/2007.
We arrived early afternoon and were greeted very friendly. We stayed in a lower garden room; Room # 7. This room has a small front porch with two chairs and a table and a private deck in the back with lounge chairs, sun umbrella, a soaking tub and an outside shower.
The restaurant is just outside the room in a garden like area between the Tallman house and the Blue Wing Saloon. We dined at the restaurant and the food was very good.
The staff was very friendly and professional (Restaurant and Hotel)
The room was beautiful and clean, very clean! We used the pool and hot tub on premises as well. Towels and drinking water were available in the very nice pool area. Again, everything was immaculate.
The soaking tub on our back deck was a real beauty. We have a hot tub at home but this was a really nice experience w/o the jets going. In the write-up about the hot tub (in the room) you'll find a hint to put a little step stool inside the tub with you. Try it out! I don't want to spoil the experience...it's worth it.
Bottom line: Very beautiful place. Everything we found was immaculate. Even the outside window sill on our front pation did not have any dust!!! Nothing. Very friendly people. They built and maintained this place with a lot of attention to detail. Very luxurious. I will come back here and stay again. Perfect location to start your trip around the lake. We surely fell in love with the Tallman house.

The Tallman Hotel is a wonderful and relaxing place! We spent two beautiful nights there and found the Hotel very accomodating and beautiful. The restaurant next door, The Blue Wing Cafe was friendly and the food was tasty and fresh.

We enjoyed the continental breakfast at the Tallman, which they served in their beautiful dining room. If you want to slow down and relax, this is the place to stay in Upper Lake, CA. Don't forget to tour the lake!
