The house is beautiful and big. The rooms were very comfortable right down to the very soft sheets on the bed. Food was excellent. Twaine Heart is small and a very cute town which is just up the highway. The innkeepers were very accommodating for my friends wedding.

Room Tip: All rooms were beautiful.

The rooms are pleasant and the breakfasts are very good, however I spent the two nights we stayed miserably coughing and spluttering. There are two large dogs that have free range in the house and even hang out around the breakfast table. I am allergic to animal dander so this was a problem for me. I think that somewhere in the website there should be an advisory that this is not the place for people with allergies. We did find the town of Twain Harte charming and there were surprisingly good restaurants for such a small place. The staff in the B&B were very helpful too, but for the reason stated above we would not return.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and booked with this property through a Living Social Coupon. One of the nice aspects to these coupons is that it is exposes us to places that we might never go to.
Thus Twain Harte. It is a wonderful little town with fine dining, clean forest air and wonderful hiking. We hiked around Pinecrest Lake (see Photo) and then drove into Sonora for some lunch,
McCaffrey House made us feel at home as we had full run of the kitchen to make tea and have cookies. There is a wine and cheese serving in the early eve where guests can gather. Many interesting folk staying at the Inn.
Rooms were spacious, comfortable and well furnished.
The innkeepers were most gracious and hospitable. Stephanie seemed like she really cared that we were satisfied.
Breakfasts were served family style with guests sharing tables and conversations. The food was homemade and delicious.
For us, one of the greatest parts of McCaffrey House is that they welcomed our dog Ranger, treating him like part of the family. The property is fenced in and a well behaved dog like Ranger could roam the perimeter with the owners two well mannered dogs, no problem.
Highly recommend this establishment for a weekend getaway to the peaceful pleasant world of Twain Harte.

Pure luxury, excellent service ad beautiful surroundings. An hour from Yosemite Park, and close to Twaine Harte which has good restaurants, but it is possible to stay alive with just the magnificent breakfast.

My wife presented me with a surprise three-day getaway to visit the Calaveras "Big Trees" State Park to view the magnificent giant sequoias and walk about the various trails and visit the nearby historical sites such as Columbia State Historic Park. During this period, we stayed at the McCaffrey House Bed & Breakfast Inn in Twain Harte, where we enjoy the cordial hospitality of Stephanie and "Mike" McCaffery. Nestled in the woods, their B&B affords their guests with a cozy and charming setting in which to enjoy their stay while visiting the various interesting sites to be found in this rustic area of northern California. As for the accommodations, there were two shortfalls: When taking a shower or bath, there was a marked deficiency in the hot water supply and well as a noticeable fluctuation between hot and cold water, making it somewhat unpleasant to bathe, especially when taking a shower. Furthermore, the stove fireplace did not work, since, as I learned, there was not any propane gas in the tank. It should be noted that this is not a handicapped accessible inn. Its 15-foot stairway from the outside parking area to the inn proper does not have any white markings to identify the numerous steps, making this passageway one to tread on carefully. Friendly dogs are welcomed here, where there are two family dogs to greet them too. Wine, cheese and crackers are served everyday in the late afternoon affording the house guests with a good opportunity to mingle and exchange their sightseeing experiences. There are ample books and videos for the guests to read and view. The breakfast is most pleasant and a definite must, and Stephanie's homemade preserves are not to be missed! All-in-all, this was a good to very good experience.

Room Tip: I do not recall the name of the room we stayed in, however, it was the largest bedroom.

Green Features: The bathroom had a written request posted to ask guests to conserve water and electrical use whenever possible.

We wanted to visit Yosemite but not stay in the park itself. Through the Select Registry, we found McCaffrey House. We have very good experiences with this guide and relied heavily on it during our two trips to California so far. It was not easy to find McCaffrey House when we arrived at night, but the reception was very welcoming and when we woke up the next morning surrounded by nature (you literally sleep among the trees) and then went for a rich breakfast, all was well. The only reservation we had while making the booking was the presence of a dog and cat as my wife cannot stand them (especially cats). Fortunately, the pets proved to be well-behaved and they never affected our wonderful experience. The drive to Yosemite is quite long and we were happy we only had planned one day in the park. Because of the location of the B&B, going out for dinner means taking the car. That said, the surroundings are imposing and there are several towns not far away with surprisingly many options for drinking and dining (the wine bar of the Diamond Back Grill in Sonora is a gem). There is even a casino nearby, should you feel lucky.

Room Tip: We stayed a couple of days and because of limitations to the availability, we slept in two rooms: th...

We booked the McCaffrey House because we were going to Yosemite and they are just an hour or so from there. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were at home. Stephanie & Michael are the best host and hostess!. Breakfast is at 9 AM every morning, but we wanted an earlier start to Yosemite, so Stephanie asked what time we would want breakfast so we could get going. We never expected to have breakfast at a different time than the others. So thoughtful of her. Of course we let her know this. We enjoyed visiting with Stephanie and Michael as well. They were so great with written directions to the surrounding areas. Great restaurants in Twaine Harte also and the locals are very friendly! Our room was very nice. The place very clean. The breakfasts to die for! Thanks, Stephanie and Michael for helping us have such a great vacation! I would highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast to all my friends!
