“Good hotel great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Found a great deal on Travelocity. Room on the small side for a family of 4. Beds aren't queen, rather full size. Ladies who run the breakfast was great. Short drive to town and about 15mins to resorts on Donner Pass rd. Lobby has snacks for sale after the restaurant closes.

We recently stayed at the Larkspur for a few days with our dogs, where we were greated by a friendly front desk who promptly provided a new doggy toy for our furry family members. The room was newly remodeled and clean. Breakfast was provided each morning in a family friendly atmosphere. There are also doggy waste bags at each entrance.

Perfect location with everything you need within walking distance. 3-4 restaurants 100 yds away plus free breakfast. I stay here for all my business trips. Would recommend to anyone, especially if skiing Northstar or wanting to be in the Truckee area.

The Larkspur is an upgraded motel with all of the pluses and minuses. I believe that it once was a Best Western.

The room includes your basic bed with slightly nicer sheets and comforter. They only offer one soap in the bathroom to economize.

The TV is a non-flat panel with limited channel selection. It's one of the few places without CNBC, for example.

The gym has the basic machines and weights and there is a single small jacuzzi.

The free breakfast is a non-fancy set of breads, juices, and fruits plus scrambled eggs and one meat.

But the rooms are convenient to reach, especially with gear like skis. There's no need for bellhops and their attendant fees. There also are no valet or "resort" fees.

The low rates and lack of fees make the stay very reasonable for the area. The Larkspur is a good value.

Hi BrTr,

Thank you for sharing your experience during your stay with us. I have shared your comments with the appropriate members of our team regarding the single bar of soap as this was definitely an oversight in our part to which I apologize for. Nonetheless, I do appreciate that you find our hotel a good value, and hope that your travels bring you back again to Larkspur Hotel Truckee Tahoe!

Lovely hotel located perfectly in downtown Truckee. Nice lobby, good breakfast, comfy delightful feather beds. I ended up getting food poisoning and not leaving the room for about 20 hours so I can comfortably say -

the walls are paper-thin, but this place is quiet while everyone else is skiing.
room service will not bother you while the "do not disturb" sign is on the door, and will slide an explanatory piece of paper under the door and offer to clean your room later. unheard-of. Lovely.
when you're feeling better, you'll be able to walk to restaurants and 50/50.
quick drive to northstar.

Room Tip: 2nd floor is quieter.

While skiing in the Lake Tahoe region I happened to see the Larkspur hotel on the internet. I booked there for my last night in the area and I wish that I had stayed there earlier. The hotel was very clean, convenient to the ski areas and walking distance to restaurants and there was a mexican restaurant on the premises. The Town of Truckee was only 1 1/2 miles away and they had many nice eating places. I will definitely stay there again. They also have a nice fitness area and a hot tub by the pool area

Great breakfasts. Clean. Good location. Rooms are basic ski area utilitarian decor.Poor cell phone reception. Overpriced in room movies. Really bad TV with impossible sound. Front staff are very nice but are definitely not rocket scientist. You can't even get angry because they are so sweetly unhelpful. Not a lot of quality to choose from around here so I guess it is not that bad.
