“Excellent little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

This is my first time leaving a review... ever, so that should tell you how I feel about this place (in a good way). Amazing architecture, very clean throughout, and innovative room decor. Stella was excellent for dinner, and the breakfast there hit the spot!

Great location right next to downtown Truckee, with Northstar (where we skied--awesome!) 10 minutes away and Squaw only about 20 minutes away.

Only issue was some dog-barking waking me up twice at 6:30 AM. But there was full-disclosure of it being a dog-friendly hotel, so I was in no position to complain. It doesn't appear that they isolate dog-owners into one building.

My husband and I were delighted by the hospitality and location of this hotel! The hearty breakfast provided every morning was exactly what we needed before heading to the ski slopes in the Tahoe area. The rooms were quiet and very clean. The staff were very accommodating. We also purchased our ski lift tickets from the hotel every morning--which saved us about $10/day per person.

This is undoubtedly the best hotel in the area. It is visually stunning - modern, but with plenty of wood to soften the effect. The hotel is broken into three separate buildings. A fourth building houses the lobby and a fifth the restaurant. There were some really nice features to this hotel - the staff was very accommodating and helpful. There is a plentiful breakfast. My husband and I ate for free and paid a small fee for our two children. The rooms are artfully furnished with halogen lightening and modern fixtures. The internet is easy to access. The linens are plush and comfortable. And the afternoon snacks are really delicious - cheeses, salami, vegetables. They even served cupcakes on day.

That said, there are still some features that could be upgraded which would make this hotel go from really good to wonderful. First, there is simply not enough lightening in the room. It is too dim in the late afternoon to even read a book. Simple lights over the beds would solve this problem easily. Second, the mattresses are just not all that comfortable. I generally woke with a backache. Basically, the beds cried out for some kind of pillow-top to soften them.

While these downsides would certainly not be enough to cause me to stay somewhere else, I did feel they were worth mentioning. The room did come equipped with its own flashlight, so maybe that was supposed to combat the dimness of the room?

A nice feature, even in the winter, is the hottub. Bring your bathing suits!

The hotel is only a few minutes by car to downtown Truckee, so its conveniently located.

This was our second time here and it was even better than the first time. The room is cool, the breakfasts included in the room rate, delish. Its in a great location if you want to get to Reno, the I-80, North and South Lake and skiing resorts.

Room Tip: If you are staying for more than a couple of days, splurge a little to get the extra kitchen/sitting...

We just love the hotel! The staff was great, the rooms very modern/ new age, the beds were comfortabe and all you could smell was the cedar - Just wonderful! We arrived 2 1/2 hours early and they let us check in and when my son need an iron he got it right a way. Everyone at the hotel had smiles -- It's a wonderful place to stay! I just wish the wedding we had to attend had been at this hotel!

This is an eco friendly and pet friendly hotel with well appointed rooms, plush bed linens, an excellent restaurant on site (Stella) and some of the best customer service I have ever experienced at a hotel. Staff was thoughtful, thorough and prompt. When we needed some additional items brought to our rooms and when we asked to have excursions booked, the staff here took care of everything in a matter of minutes. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is due to the fact that the property is located right on a very busy road travelled on by lots of large rigs and trucks and was really noisy throughout the night. I’m not normally very picky about that kind of thing but we like sleeping with the windows open for a bit of fresh air and even with them closed it was very noisy. Otherwise this is a great hotel.

My son's "destination" wedding was incredible and the entire experience was flawless! The most beautiful wedding ever! The planning, service, food, venue all PERFECT! Patti and Jeff went over and beyond to ensure our "eco-wedding" was a success. Our guests are still talking about it!
