“Good intermediate ski area”

Now has even more runs and more places to eat. But if you are looking for excitement and real diamonds go elsewhere.

“Good service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you loathe the constant abuse at high-quality terrain mountains like Squaw Valley, North Star is a nice break, with professional management, quality infrastructure, decent grooming, great snowmaking, and friendly staff.

Unfortunately, they've chosen to remove any semblance of natural-ness or physical or mental challenge from the place by dynamiting inconvenient rock outcrops, glading excessively, expanding chairlifts into every square inch of their boundary area, and failing to open the side-country access gates except for very, very rare occasions.

The effect is to put you to sleep quickly, since there is really no corner left to explore, nowhere to challenge yourself, nowhere to make decisions, nowhere to hike for earned turns, and nowhere to have to think. Ever.

It's like skiing on a beginner's golf course. Good for business meetings and for getting your legs strong for backcountry touring.

On the other hand, summer lift-assisted mt. biking is spectacular!

“Great family, couples, friends spot.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Nice place to walk around, eat at Mikuni's - Best Sushi Ever! Lots of shopping, eateries. Bike Trails, in the winter great ski runs. Condo's are beautiful. Pool for condo owners is a great spot. Beautiful location in quaint Mountain town of Truckee, CA. Summers here rarely see 90's, with zero humidity. No Mosquito's for miles so enjoying a cocktail outside on a warm summers nite is perfect. Stars really do shine brighter in Truckee, Hardly any street lights to light up the night sky. If you time your visit right, you can usually catch a meteor shower that you just can't see in the city.

“Great year round!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Our favorite place to ski. Lots of snow making, great intermediate runs. Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. Large village with ships, restaurants, ice skating or roller skating. Mountain biking and hiking in summer.

Fun up at North Star. Good food, unique shops and even a small theater. We will be going back. We've been there a few times for pizza. This year they had a fun blue grass festival.
