Because I dine numerous times annually at Moody's, I decided not to write a negative review after my previous less than satisfactory visit (in September) chalking up the disappointing experience to simply a server having a bad day, but after dining there this past week and experiencing even worse service - from the same wait person - I felt compelled to write this review.
We had an early evening reservation, showed up a few minutes early and were promptly seated. Our wait person came and took our drink order and gave us our dinner menus. Drinks are served shortly thereafter, and we place our order for appetizers...
...pretty good so far...
Appetizers are served, and just as we are about to place our dinner orders we are told they are out of the lamb shank. (We thought that was a little odd, since it was very early in the evening but...okay) We place dinner our orders and ask our wait person if we could please have some bread - every other table in the restaurant has bread on the table. The reply we got when we asked for some bread was "I'll see if I can get some." What? We didn't ask for anything unusual, just bread ... like every other table had on it. A few minutes after we had placed our dinner order our server came back to our table (with no bread) and proceeded to tell us that they are out of the soup of the day that two of us had ordered. I change my order to the french onion soup and was promptly advised that they are out of ALL soups tonight. I thought...well, it seems a little strange to be out of the lamb shank and ALL soups and it's not yet 7.30PM, but okay? We ask to look at the menu so we can change our order and ask once again if we can have some bread.
About 15 minutes later our dinners arrive and my friend took a bite of his steak and said "this is cold". He then proceeded to flag down A server and let them know the steak was cold. (Still no bread.) About five minutes later the steak was returned - same steak - now over-cooked but hot. Oh, well. We begin to eat our dinner and after about five minutes the party at the table next to us is served their dinners, and we were all at bit gob-smacked to see that one person was served the lamb shank and another person had lovely cup of soup. We all looked at each other and asked, uh I thought they were out of the lamb shank and out of ALL soups? What is going on?
One of the people at our table asked to speak with the manager, who proceeded to explain to us that they were very busy and just out of these items when we tried to order them, which may have been accurate but certainly does not excuse the server simply advising us that "we are out of the lamb shank and out of ALL soups for the evening" instead of perhaps saying that it may take a few minutes longer if we wanted ANY of the soups or the lamb shank, but if we were willing to wait a few extra minutes we could have the dishes. The manager was apologetic and took some of the dinner expenses off the bill, which was a nice gesture and exactly the same thing he did after my previous bad dining experience there just a couple of months ago, but does nothing to get too the root of the problem.
I have been dining at Moody's for several years now and until very recently I have always enjoyed my dining experience. I am not sure what's been going on there lately but I do know that my last two dining experiences have been similarly unsatisfactory and had another thing in common -- the server. I know this server's name but chose not to print it here because Moody's management knows who this server is, and that's what SHOULD matter.
Moody's used to be such a pleasant and tasty dining experience, with friendly and knowledgeable servers who seemed to enjoy interacting with their guests and enhanced the overall dining experience with their knowledge of the menu and engaging personalities, but that's not been my experience at all over the last few months. I hope this isn't going to be Moody's new standard, being sub-standard.
Sadly, I no longer feel comfortable recommending Moody's to friends or family.
Wake up Moody's management!
