“Beautiful place but do not recognize Marriott Rewards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Recently booked a trip through my Marriott Rewards points to get away for a quick romantic weekend with the wife. The Ritz Northstar is a beautiful place and we were welcomed at the car by an exceptional bell staff and seen the the front desk. The rooms are beautiful and well appointed. We enjoyed roasted marshmallows on the deck that evening that they provided and had their homemade mallows that we enjoyed greatly. Had some drinks in the lobby bar that was very nice and very nice service. Ordered room service that evening and it was delivered on time with personal service and tasted great. My only real complaints is the cost of parking, internet/resort fee and the total lack of recognition of Marriott Rewards Platinum status. To compare I booked a hotel in London the prior weekend that was also a 5 star hotel right in downtown London for less points and they recognized my status with an upgrade and other amenities. This is low season for the Ritz as the ski slopes were not open yet and the hotel was not busy so it just would have been nice for some of the same treatment I get at other hotels by being loyal to the Marriott Brand. Just know it going in that there is no recognition other than the front desk saying "oh you must travel a lot since you are platinum". Other than that the hotel is beautiful and located in an awesome ski resort but if you visit in the summer or off peak you can also enjoy walking and biking trails and the great outdoors just the same.

The Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe is truly an amazing resort at Northstar. The staff is top notch and will ensure you have a great vacation. It's the little details that make the difference between staying at the Ritz and other hotels -- from the warm welcome, staff remembering your name and the extra care they take in house keeping that really make you feel like a valued guest.

The on-site restaurant, Manzanita, has a number of options for all family members. The margherita pizza is excellent, as well as a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup to warm you up after a day on the slopes hits the spot.

Cafe Blue is another great option on-site for grabbing a quick hot beverage and bite to eat for breakfast or lunch. They make smoothies to order - I liked both the Berry and Peanut butter versions. They also have steel cut oatmeal made fresh daily and assorted pastries. The Linzer bars are very tasty.

There is also a rental facility and small satellite snow sports shop (True North) for your convenience. They have demo quality gear if you need rentals and a ski concierge service. The hotel is right on the beginner slope, Easy Street, where the ski valet will have your equipment waiting for a quick trip down to the lift (Big Easy) or a very short walk or skate over to Arrow Express.

It was early season conditions, but still fun. Felt more like spring through Thanksgiving. Great to get a few turns on the slopes and shake off the cobwebs.

There is on site construction currently taking place. It looks like they are nearly finished with the new backyard bar and BBQ. This looks like it will be a nice addition to the property...I can't wait until my next trip to enjoy it. Unfortunately, the game room is also under renovations. This was a bit of a disappointment for me and my nieces.

Don't forget to hang out in the lobby after a long day. They provide service to you at the comfortable chairs and couches throughout. It's great to grab a drink near the fireplace after a day on the slopes.

The rooms are spacious and bathrooms are amazing. The deep tub in the deluxe king room was perfect for soaking in after a long day of snowboarding or skiing. The separate door for the toilet was also a nice touch. I had a mountain view room, which was nice. Although I'm not sure there is a bad view on any side of the hotel.

The gondola trip down to the village is convenient since it is too far of a walk. It's a somewhat long ride and very dark at night. The village has a few other options for shopping, dining and entertainment...well worth making the trip. The hotel also offers a shuttle service if you want to avoid the gondola ride.

All in all a world class hotel and amazing vacation. I highly recommend the Ritz at Lake Tahoe.

We held our daughters wedding here in November 2013 and it was fabulous. The facilities and staff are accommodating, friendly and the site is gorgeous! The dinner served in the Ritz Ballroom was delicious and each person at each table was served at the same time by white gloved waiters. Many guests commented on the comfort of the rooms, the fabulous spa and the excellent dining room. Overall I give the hotel very high marks on pulling off a large, complex event in a seemingly effortless manner! Our contact person at the hotel, Blanche Tabe, was extremely helpful as was our wedding planner Shannon Morse.

One of the best traveling experiences ever. Ritz Carlton is known for great facilities and service but they exceeded our expectations. Although this is a fairly large resort with top notch amenities, it was the personal touch of the staff that set this trip above and beyond other trips. Here's a few examples: The general manager, Joseph, was stopping by for coffee at the cafe and greeted my family to insure we were well taken care of. He stepped away for a few minutes and returned with a small teddy bear gift for my 18 mo. son. It wouldn't be the only time Joseph said 'hello' and I was amazed how he'd stop conversations with his staff to check if we were doing ok. This example seemed to resonate with others from the valet, Luke (who greeted us by name every time I drove up and insured we had fresh bottles of water in our cup holders when we took our car out) to Dr. Marsh and the friendly concierges running the Smores campfire event. The hospitality expressed by all felt genuine and sincere. We've traveled to many 5-star vacation spots and it's rare to feel this level of connection with the staff. The entire experience inspired us to plan the next opportunity to visit.

We have been touring California and wanted to visit on our trip Lake Tahoe. We booked the ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe and our biggest disappointment when arriving there after a 5 hours drive the hotel is NOT located at the lake. While booking this hotel you should be informed that this is a place out in the nowhere and not at the lake, especially if you are not familiar with the area and coming from overseas. Wish we would have known in advance - but then we had no chance then to stay !

Ritz Tahoe is the best hotel that I have stayed at in a long time. The staff is top notch with out being intrusive. Once you arrive at the resort, there is no need to leave. From hiking trails to delicious fruit and herb infused water, they have everything covered. This place is one in a million, please stay here!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and perfect!
