“Nice and secluded..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Nice place if you like your privacy. No worry about running in to anyone like at a hotel. Had a GREAT time with the family. Would highly recommend. Weather was excellent too. When going to the resort, better to go early because everything starts closing around 6. This was during their off season times.

I had booked to stay here from Expedia for 3 nights at the end of July / beginning of August. After the first night I extended my stay to another night.

The resort was very quiet, but that's just what I was looking for. A ten minute drive down to the lake / beach - which is where I spent most of my time.

The studio apartment I stayed in was well looked after, with excellent kitchen facilities and a good balcony. For the price, I'd definitely recommend staying here. I'd like to come back in the winter for some skiing!

Our room was nice and conveniently located in the village shopping and restaurant area. Northstar has a great pool and recreation facility. The pool is heated and comfortable for families. The pool area has several hot tubs, two large pools, and a children's pool. There are several shops located in the village, and a few nice restaurants. I would highly recommend Northstar Village for a get-away.

Room Tip: Bring snacks and breakfast foods, as the Earthly Delights Deli is very expensive for the simplest sn...

We booked a 1 br. condo through Travelocity. We were put in the Aspen Grove Ski Run Condos. Each condo is separately owned so you don't know exactly what you are getting. Our condo was on the ground floor which kept it nice and cool. There is no air conditioning so upper floors can be a little warm. The condo had everything we needed to cook. The bed in the master was very comfortable. The sleeper sofa bed in the living room was pretty bad. We were right next to one of the support poles for the one gondola lift. That wasn't usually a problem because it shut down by 6pm. Our last night however, there was a wedding at the top of the mountain. They kept the gondola running until well after 1am. The gondola cars are noisy when they go over the support poles. We didn't get much sleep that last night. Another problem was access to the POA pool. It was too far to walk to the pool so we tried driving down. We had a terrible time parking near the facility. There are so many day use bike riders who park there, there's not too many places left for anyone else. We tried that 1 day and ended up going to the lake the rest of the time. It was easier to get to the lake than the pool. We walked down to the village one day to see what was there. We were disappointed. There really isn't much in the village. There's a couple of restaurants/bars, a couple of outdoor apparel type stores, a candle making shop and a children's shop. That's about it. There used to be more variety of stores a couple of years ago. They all have since closed.

I don't know that I would stay here again. It is a little farther from the lake and it got too crowded during the day. It shouldn't be so hard to go to the pool.

Northstar manages the rentals of the many condos on the property. We were looking for a place for 3 nights that was centrally located in the north Tahoe area. Website pictures looked good, so we reserved a 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath condo for my wife, my self, and our son. The person who helped us said they were not very busy, and she would get us a nicer unit close to the village. These are NOT cheap places, so while I didn't expect luxury, I did expect somewhat modern, clean, and functional. Not what I got.

When we got the first set of keys, we opened the front door to a dump. The carpet looked like 30 year old shag, with large stains, similar to what would happen if you had a big dog that was not potty trained. The furniture was ugly and dated, the kitchen barely functional. The cheapest appliances possible. Dingy. I have rented a LOT of vacation condos, and this was the worst.

We went back to the rental office. I asked if anyone in that office had actually SEEN the inside of this unit, they shrugged and said all units were 'inspected'. They were able to find another unit. It was quite old and a bit beat up, but the kitchen was updated. Furniture was fine, bed lumpy but usable. It was a OK ski type condo for a bunch of young people, and worked for a couple of days for us. Being the summer, it was quite warm outside, and the units do not have central fans or air conditioning. Not even a celling fan! It gets quite stuffy.

Bottom line - The condos at Northstar that we saw were old and threadbare. The management has dubious 'inspection' tastes, and apparently does not notice obvious failings. You MAY get a decent unit, or you may not. If they were full, and we would have been stuck. I would have left and not paid the credit card charge. That is how bad it was.

If you plan on going, get pictures of the ACTUAL unit. Better yet, find a better complex.

Room Tip: You need to inspect the actual unit you will get. Not sure anyone else does.

Bad coordination in between the services let us stay 3 hours outside without being able to enter our suite - without trying to help or at least... excuses + one card to access the building was not working but the front desk was not able to give us an other card, we would have to return to Northstar Drive to get a new card ?? Not really nice welcome to the Village which was really noisy at night...

If your a trail biker it's the happening spot. We travelled with 17 yr old boys who love the hiking and biking the roller skating, pool and sports area. There were even gondola tickets included. I liked the area not necessarily the room itself. Small room but had a balcony, couldn't get a better location and we were only there to sleep.
