“Fine lodging any time of the year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

I am a very frequent traveler with my job, so as a result I have become very demanding of what I get in return for the amount of money I spend annually. When choosing a place to spend vacation time with my family, I look for properties that will not only meet my demands but also offer unique experiences in lodging. Tahoe Mountain Resort Lodging exceeded my expectations. From the time of booking through checkout, I was treated with some of the best customer service I have had. The entire establishment is like an upscale park setting. It is quiet and peaceful with access to an abundance of activities. The parking is underground which helps to make the area picture perfect. We had a two bedroom three bathroom apartment style accommodation that was finely decorated and furnished with high quality appliances and furniture. It is also protected with a sprinkler system for fire safety. The pool, hot tubs and fitness center would rival many "for fee" fitness centers. This is a stress free, comfortable place that you will not want to leave. Stay here, cook yourself a gourmet dinner, sip on a glass of wine in front of the fireplace or on the deck and you will find it difficult to even consider another hotel/motel ever again.

Room Tip: A room facing the west offers beautiful sunsets.

Nicest accommodations we've ever had in 25 years skiing around the world. Beautifully appointed condo (catamount) in the heart of the village. Top line kitchen equipped with everything you need to make a meal. Friendly staff A+ all the way.

We stayed in a two bedroom 2.5 bath unit in the Catamount Lodge as an extended family of four adults and two children. We were there over the Thanksgiving weekend, which is still relatively early in the ski season and therefore not yet very crowded. Overall, we liked the Catamount because of the space and the amenities, and also because of the immediate access to the Northstar Ski Resort.

The Catamount is located inside the “Village at Northstar”, which is a multi-use complex that has several condo/hotels, restaurants and shops, and ski services all surrounding a central skating rink. The location is superb because you literally have to go downstairs from your room, turn a corner, and head to the “Big Springs Express Gondola” to start your skiing day at Northstar. Places to buy tickets, sign-up for lessons, and rent ski equipment are also equally accessible. Because it was early in the season, there wasn’t much lines for the Gondola nor the ski rental place, but I can imagine that it could get quite crowded and chaotic, especially at the ski rental place – ski rentals took a while even though it wasn’t that crowded.

The check-in process at the hotel is a little awkward. You basically have to park in front of the Village, check in at the front office where you get your room keys, and then drive into the enclosed (and heated) underground parking lot to access your room. Also, it doesn’t appear that the front office is open 24 hours, so if you are coming late or early, you should call ahead.

The room we stayed in was very spacious, nicely furnished, and kept very clean. The décor is “luxury cabin” … warm woods and natural tones. It had a nice full kitchen with all the utensils and equipment you could want, a separate dining room and living room, a writing desk, and an outdoor balcony, in addition to the two separate bedrooms. Our unit came with 2.5 baths … one each in the bedrooms and another half bath off of the living room. The second bedroom also has a washer and dryer which is always very convenient to have. All in all, a lot of space even for six people. What was also great about our particular room (Room 308) is that it had a bunk bed in addition to a regular king size bed … so that one bedroom had three separate beds. That was great for our kids … no one had to sleep on a sofa bed!

Dining options are plentiful in the village. There’s several casual restaurants, takeout places, a Starbucks, and even a little grocery where you can buy basics. I would recommend heading to a real supermarket in Truckee or Kings Beach if you are looking to stock up to make real meals. (Also, the room doesn’t come with basics like salt/pepper and oil, so you’ll need to buy/bring that as well.)

The skating rink is also a fun activity in the evening. The rink itself is free, and rental skates are $10 for the day, so a fair price for the location. There’s also a lot of seating and fire pits around the rink, so it’s a fun place to hang out, have drinks or takeout, and be generally social. The rink was open until 9:00 and it stayed pretty lively until then.

In summary, the Catamount is a nice, spacious, higher-end condo right in the heart of the Village at Northstar that enables you to enjoy the skiing at Northstar with minimal hassle.

Room Tip: Each room is furnished a little differently. For example Room 308 has a bunk-bed in addtion to a re...

We were looking for a ski in ski out with luxury rooms. We were very pleased. The resort is well maintained and the underground parking is so convenient. The gondola was directly across from the Catamount. It couldn't get any better. A locker was also included which was again very close to the gondola. The room was very large and the bathroom was large with a great shower, and the floor had radian heat which was great. We enjoyed the village, on Saturday night there were ski races and they ended in the village, which was fun. I liked the firepits everywhere. The music was enjoyable also. We really enjoyed our stay here!

Room Tip: We stayed in 103A. It had a king size bed, it was the size of a standard hotel room with a ktchene...

The rooms are smaller than they look on the web site, the bathroom has a very good size.
The good thing about this suites is the location, is next to the gondola, and you can get down the mountain skiing.
I would recommend to go to a supermarket before getting here because there is only a deli to buy food and is very expensive.

Thank you so much syympa for your review of the Catamount Lodge managed by Tahoe Mountain Resorts Lodging. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts regarding the size of the suites in the lodge as we hope it helps our future guests to plan their visit. They are the smallest residences that we do provide and are ideal for a single or couple that is only spending a limited amount of time in their room during their visit. We do recommend studios or one bedroom condominiums for a more spacious setting or for those guests planning on relaxing and spending a good amount of time in their residence while on vacation. Excellent tip to do your grocery shopping on your way to the mountain! We hope to see you return soon...

Catamount is first class. We were impressed with how clean everything was from the room down to the foyer. The location in the village is great. You can just walk out your door to enjoy stores, restaurants , music and an outstanding view. Any staff members we engaged in were very courteous . We found everyone to be professional and friendly. I would recommend Northstar to arrange any type of vacation you are looking for, including a romantic getaway .

Room Tip: We loved the 3rd floor because of the amazing view.

Thank you very much "Hiking Fans" for sharing your review of the Catamount Lodge and Tahoe Mountain Resorts Lodging! It sounds like you all had a phenomenal visit. I bet you experienced the amazing hiking trails just outside your door as well as throughout the Lake Tahoe area. Our trails and views of the Sierra and Lake Tahoe rival if not exceed any spectacular vistas in the world (of course we may be a bit bias...). We hope you will be back next summer to visit again or even better, for a winter getaway!

Catamount is a first class 5 star experience. The unit we had was beautiful with leather couches plasma TV. We had a small AC problem upon arrival and maintenance came at once and fixed it.
The front desk manned by Chris handled some special needs we had very profesionally and the concierge Kathryn gave us some great ideas for things to do that were off the beat and path.
Location in the center of the village is awesome. We are considering skiing here in the winter. Thanks for a great trip!

Room Tip: High floor will give you a nice view
