“Fantastic Retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

A group of four of us went for the deal that Clenaghans promote which is £120 per couple to include a two course meal in the restaurant, an overnight stay in one of their apartments and breakfast the next morning. I cannot express how much good value this deal is!!! £60 per person!! The hospitality shown by owner Claire was so friendly and welcoming from our arrival and this carried right through until we left. The food was excellent and of a very high standard. This is definitely not just "good pub food"! Presentation and flavour was just superb. Our apartment was spacious and homely. We even had an old fashioned dentist chair in the lounge and the roll top bath was amazing. Every nook and cranny is just so quirkly and highly enjoyable. I couldn't recommend Clenaghans highly enough for a romantic get away (just 15 mins drive from Belfast) or for a group of friends catching up over old times. I can't wait to visit Clenaghans again! There are only a few apartments available and these are booked well in advance so be sure to make a reservation early to avoid disappointment.

“Gorgeous food & great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

This is such a great place to eat, especially for a special occasion as it is a bit expensive. The food is amazing and the atmosphere lovely. Staff are very nice too.

“out of the ordinary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Even as one approaches the building there is a sense that this will be something out of the ordinary, and it is. Entering the building (the door is at the side) one gets a sense of a bye-gone era, and impressed by the authenticity. The service is efficient, professional and helpful. We decided to go for goat’s cheese to start, and it was excellent. For main course we selected steak and sometimes we have been disappointed when it is not what we expected. Not this time! This was one of the best steaks we ever had, it was that good. Simply put, the food was wonderful and beautifully presented. There was no rush through courses. We were there mid-week and the restaurant was busy which speaks for itself. A very pleasant evening and one that we hope to repeat sometime.

“What a great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

We were recommended this place by a friend and what a pleasant surprise it was. We arrived early and were shown to a table in the bar area, ordered some drinks. The front of house staff were very pleasant, we forgot to order wine with the meal order, but when I said I'd forgotten it was no problem for them.

We had booked for 8pm and our meal was ready on time, no long waits between courses. I had a risotto starter followed by cod, all perfectly cooked the rest of the table had the char grilled chicken which was really succulent or steak which was cooked to perfection as well. Nice selection of desserts I ordered the cheese board which had 5 good sized pieces of cheese on it, only criticism would be the cheese arrived too cold

They were really full but service was good although a slight criticism would be that nobody came and offered us coffee/liqueurs so we just headed to the bar area again and ordered there. Some local musicians were playing which was a nice surprise to enhance the the end of the evening.

Lighting is almost all done by candles and the interior is rustic and old, lots of bare wood and tiled floors. All in all I would definitely go back. We had the midweek special menu £15 for two course plus £3 supplements for the steaks. Total bill £170 for 5 people including two very good bottles of rioja (£19.99), aperitifs and digestives.
