“Good and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2007

I'm a Hilton Honors member so maybe I got better treatment from reception, but overall it was a good stay. Parking is free in the lot and the huge mall w/Starbucks in the courtyard is right across the street.

The bed was excellent and room service/the food was good. My only complaints are the bath water could have been hotter and the shower was a little weak. Also, no fridge or mini bar - this had been removed. It was nice to have a balcony and open up the sliding door for fresh air. Lots of places to eat nearby and another shopping center on the adjacent street. I would stay here again.

  • Liked — free parking, convenient, nice service, good room service, great bed
  • Disliked — not enough hot water, carpet not that great

NIce hotel. Good room, nice gym (for a hotel), plenty of parking, and a nice atmosphere.

i stayed here for 2 nights before going to Boston. The location is very near the LAX and also the Del Amo Mall, one of the biggest shopping centers in the USA. There are also Barnes & Noble and Borders bookstores in the area.

I would recommend this for those who want to do some serious shopping. The rooms also have internet connection at 10-12 dollars per day. You will not see a lot of hotel staff around, but there is an ever present security guard who is standing in the center part of the hotel and he sees who comes and goes.

Hilton has a much lower online room rate if you book early. They also have a non refundable rate online which is even lower and i suggest you avail of this if you are sure you will not move your schedule anymore. It comes out much cheaper than the nearby 4-5 star hotels like the Marriott nearby.

I booked this via the Hilton web site however I can't believe it was really a Hilton hotel. They've done the "nice lobby / shame about the rooms" trick to us. The rooms were dark and looked out on a pile of air conditioning units - very unattractive, noisy and miserable. It's a basic place to stay and so overpriced for what you get. The carpet was dirty and bedding basic to average. Dirty tub and miserable staff. Nope, go somewhere else!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2006

Stayed here for 4 nights in mid April '06:

Rooms: the room was your standard cookie-cutter hotel room layout, decor was decent, looks like it was recently renovated as it had a stark contrast to the hallway's decor. We found it odd that the fridge was empty and there was no mini-bar in there, which suited us just fine. The empty fridge was much appreciated as we stocked up from the liquor store next door to the hotel.

The bathroom was tiny, and not the cleanest (molds can be seen around the tiles). The shower pressure was non-existent, ended up buying a showerhead for $10 at Target the next day and getting the front desk to send someone up to put it on for us, a great shower is essential when travelling, I absolutely hate limpy showerheads in hotels. Of course we did not bother to take it home afterwards so if you happen to find a great showerhead in your future stay you will know that was our room (the room number escapes me now but it was on the 4th floor) ;)

Dining: There's a Denny's across the hotel which took care of most of our dining needs during our stay, the staff are great there. Also ordered pizza from a local pizza place listed in the hotel's directory and they delivered straight to the room, quite convenient.

Common areas:

The hallways had a really musky, mold-like smell, but fortunately this did not affect the room itself. The pool was so-so, I would rate this place as more of a Holiday Inn level of quality, somewhat a hopped up motel with the renovated rooms, it is definitely not of the usual big city Hilton standards.

Service and other misc. details:

The conciege desk was empty for our entire 4 night stay, and although the front desk tries to fill in when asked, they are definitely not very helpful. Again, this fits into my general impression of this place as a glorified 3.5-star motel with pretty rooms. We did manage however to find our way around with a few maps, a AAA guidebook, and some adventurous exploring around the LA area. Rented a car near the LAX and the car rental agent gave us more helpful directions and advice about the SoCal area than the hotel staff.

The huge mall across the street seems somewhat shady with a disproportionately large number of security personnel and the Torrance Police station sharing an office with the mall security. There were always groups of teenagers dressed up in very "urban" and "hip-hop" style clothings coverging in front of the mall entrances talking to each other loudly in Spanish, and the fact that the hotel employed 2 uniformed security officers stationed in the lobby at all times also did not make me feel very safe in this area.

One last item of note, the shopping selection in the mall "Del Amo Fashion Center" was not very good, the mall looks like it was from the mid 90s and it seems to cater mostly to a hispanic demographic, as a result we did not find the urge to buy anything from there. We definitely felt misled by an acquaintance who advised us to stay in the area saying that huge mall was the biggest in California...it was big...but there wasn't much substance.

The next time I go back to SoCal will definitely be staying in either downtown LA or Anaheim around Disney as we've done in the past.

This hotel is perfectly located for eating and shopping. There's the huge DelAmo Fashion Center across and eating places all around, even the Kings Bakery eatery down the street (driving distance) for Hawaii folks. Drive left or right down Hawthorne Blvd, and you'll find a Trader Joe's. The hotel room was clean and had a refrig. The coffeemaker was most appreciated. The bed had a down comforter and lots of pillows. Loved having a sliding door open up to a balcony. The bathroom was rather small. We kept the toilet seat down so nothing would fall in from the sink counter. We used the hair dryer but not the iron. We didn't need air conditioning because it was in the 40's, but the heater helped to warm us up. As requested, we got a room close to the elevator and on a low floor. The frontdesk personnel were not the friendliest, but we did feel safe with the security personnel watching everyone within sight. There is no valet parking, but the two parking lots are conveniently situated by the front lobby or the side entrance. I plan to return to this hotel.

The best way to describe this hotel is that on the surface it appears quite nice (lobby, bar, restaurant and pool), but when you "peel back" the outer layers, it definitely misses the mark.

Arrived to encounter another guest who had been assigned a room, only to find it was being remodeled, thus he needed to be reassigned. Should have seen that as a red flag. After registering, I walked to my room, only to discover that the door was wide open. No one appeared to be staying there and it was fully made up, but I called down to be reassigned for security reasons. Went back to the front desk to get a new room/key. Unfortunately, the bathroom in the new room was in the middle of being remodeled. Called down again and insisted that someone come to me with a new key to a new room.

To the hotel’s credit, they were very apologetic and escorted me to my new room and made sure it met my satisfaction. Upon a cursory look, it did. Little did I know that in the middle of the night, it would show its true colors…a broken toilet. Heard a strange sound coming from the bathroom, only to discover water leaking everywhere. Dazed and groggy, I shut off the water, used all but one towel to sop up the mess and went back to sleep. The problem was fixed the next day, but for the rest of my stay, I always found myself keeping an eye on it to make sure it didn’t break again.

Yes, they offer in-room wireless internet access, but trying to register/pay using a credit card was an incredibly tenuous experience. Also, the signal was low, so it kept disconnecting and reconnecting. And calling it “high-speed” is quite a misnomer, as I was only able to achieve download speeds about 2-3x that of dial-up.

The one bright spot was the bed…incredibly comfortable mattress, crisp sheets and fluffy pillows made sleeping easy (when I wasn’t worrying about the toilet). Location wise, it’s great with plenty of restaurants nearby within walking distance.

Unfortunately, with all the mis-steps I encountered, I won’t be staying here again. There are simply too many better choices available.
