My family and I stayed at the Doubletree for four nights at the end of May. The following is a very detailed review of our experience. Overall, our hotel room, interaction with staff, and location were very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return again.
From the moment we entered the Doubletree, we were warmly greeted by the baggage staff, then front desk staff. Even the person playing the piano in the lobby was friendly. There is ample free parking in a well lit area. There is also security staff visible at all times in the lobby.
We were assigned Room #617 which is in the main tower of the hotel. We had a king suite with a refrigerator in the room. The room faced Hawthorne Boulevard and had a balcony with the rooftop of the first floor lobby and restaurant. The balcony is a nice size in which you can step out and enjoy the fresh ocean air but no outdoor furniture. There was a Wolfgang Puck coffee maker with Wolfgang Puck coffee and tea products. The bathroom has a several Neutrogena products. Other than a light stain on the ottoman of the wingback chair, the room was clean. The pillows were quite comfortable (six total) with an extra pillow and blanket in the closet. The bathroom is small by some hotel standards but is probably in line with a bathroom in the average American home.
The closet was longer than usual and had an ironing board and folding luggage rack available. The room also had a work table and a radio with MP3 line. We also experience easy access to the free Internet with absolutely no problems at all the entire time of our stay. Safe deposit boxes are available at no charge by contacting the front desk. A gift shop is open in the lobby from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. I also noted an ATM machine in the lobby.
There are laundry and dry cleaning services available through the hotel. Also, a coin operated laundry facility is located on the 11th Floor of the Tower Building from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Laundry soap is available at the gift shop.
Ice and soft drink machines are locate on every floor except 2, 4, and 5. Soft drinks are available on each flop except 11. Additional beverages and snacks are available in the gift shop on the lobby level.
We noted airline staff (crew and flight attendants) from Singapore Airlines staying at our hotel as well.
The hotel is in a very busy area which includes the Del Amo Fashion Center (mall). Though the roadways are busy, this brings a lot of amenities that include banks (Wells Fargo, Wachovia, Chase, Hanmi Bank, HSBC Bank, and Bank of America), many restaurants (Coco’s, Chili’s, Subway, Outback, Melting Pot, Lucille’s BBQ, PF Chang’s China Bistro, Black Angus, Koo Koo Roo, Red Lobster, and Soup Plantation) in addition to the meal options available at the hotel itself.
The location in itself makes the hotel a fabulous choice. Many retailers include Target, Ralphs grocery story, JC Penney, Sears, Macys, Staples, Crate and Barrel, Barnes and Noble, Lucky Strikes Lane (bowling alley) and the 18 AMC Theaters (movies). There is also the Madrona Marsh Preserve in the area supported by the City of Torrance.
Two miles away is the South Bay Gallerie which features Nordstroms, Macy’s, 140 specialty stores, and 16 AMC Theaters (movies).
Also two miles away is the Redondo Beach, Harbor and Pier. You can walk, skate, jog or bike at this location. Twenty minutes away is the Aquarium of the Pacific at Long Beach. Our family planned on commuting to this area daily to attend a convention, and the ride really is not that far.
To address previous comments about old furnishings, our room looked modern and new. The carpet looked fairly new and so did the décor. Our TV armoire appeared worn as though someone took out their frustrations on the door. However, there was not an outdated feeling at all.
Overall, our experience at this hotel was very positive. We would stay here again in the future.
