I spent 12 days here. It was a pleasant enough stay in a standard chain hotel. Nothing remarkable but nothing unpleasant either. The rooms are ample sized, adequately equipped and furnished. Front desk and room service were all pleasant.

I wasn't sure when I would be leaving, when I called front desk to say I would be staying an extra day they said they would have to let me know later. They didn't call but I assumed that meant it was ok. The next day I extended again, this time they confirmed straightaway. I stayed an extra couple of days after that without confirming and just settled up when I checked out. This wasn't a problem as the hotel was obviously half empty.

Security was excellent and, as a lone female traveler, I felt safe at all times.

We had 2 rooms at this hotel for 5 nights and we all got 5 great nights of sleep. The hotel is very quiet. It is near the airport but far enough away to advoid flight noice. Lots of pilots and airplane staff stay at this hotel so it is very quiet. Staff was wonderful. There is lots of security and there was always security watching the elevators but the hotel was still is a nice neighborhood. We called the street behind the hotel restuarant row/ Was 35 minute drive to Disneland. 10 minutes to Manhanttin beach and maybe 45 minutes to Malibu. Great location. LA airport only 15 minutes away. Pool area was nice with waterfalls around it but basic pool.
Decor in room is older style but beds are new. Would definately stay again. We used hotel points but rooms are reasonable priced. Great location!

The Hilton Torrance had its good and bad points. The hotel had ample parking and was close to a variety of restaurants, not to mention to the very disappointing del amo fashion center (the place is dirty and just plain smells in parts.) A common complaint I have with hotels is with the air conditioning, and the hilton torrance is no exception. The AC would not turn on until the room hit about 75 degrees, and would shut off at around 70. My first night I arrived late and complained to the front desk who to their credit promptly sent a maintenance person up (at 11:00 pm). Unfortunately, he explained the AC was working as designed. That alone is enough for me not to recommend this hotel. The room was dirty (stains on the walls and ceiling) and that and the bathroom were on the small side. One night I attempted to eat at the hotel restaurant (at around 7:00pm), but found the place devoid of any employees. After walking around and waiting ten minutes, I left. Room service was quick although the food was average at best. One positive note is that there was always a security guard in the lobby. In the end, I would not stay at this hotel again.

“Beware of the Internet Access”

Doubletree Hotel Torrance/South Bay

The site location is convenient and easy to find, but if you are trying to work while at this hotel you should reconsider. The internet access had great connectivity but extremely poor speed. It took me 4 hours to get one email sent. I ended up using dialup, and changed hotels as soon as I could. The internet service has outgoing SMTP service blocked so don't even think about using Outlook.
The executive lounge is okay but I wonder at their 'nominal' fee for a glass of wine ($7.50) and lack of anything that takes minor planning for breakfast. Even a hard boiled egg would have been good. Sorry, I can't exist on only carbs.
I would stay here again if the internet access is better and the beds not so soft. For the time being I will stay at one of the Hampton Inn properties located in the same general area.

“Stayed here for four months”

I travel for business and am a Hilton bigot (500k points, down from 1MM). I broke my employer's travel rules in order to stay here, then got them to lower their rates to get my employer to stop complaining. I refuse to commute via the freeways and work in Torrance on assignment. The customer-facing staff tries hard to score a "10" with me, but the rest of the hotel makes it difficult to score above a 7. I've sunk about $50 into the completely useless wireless there -- don't make the same mistake. No aux inputs on the TVs, so no portable DVD players. Also, don't eat dinner in the Vintage Lounge -- you'll get your drinks, appetizer, and main course all at once, after 30 mins. The Tea Room (faux Starbucks) in the lobby must close for the day around 10am -- also useless to me. The executive lounge staff are awesome, except no coffee at night. The location has some incredible shopping in walking distance and an excellent variety of restaurants within two driving minutes.

Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach are 10 minutes away by car, with a beach nightlife scene you'll cry over when its time to leave.

So why did I stay there for four months? The friendly staff at the front desk, sales office, and executive lounge. That, and my 10 minute commute, of course.

    • Liked — Location to shopping, restaurants, Hermosa Beach, and LAX, Long Beach, and John Wayne Airports
    • Disliked — Horrible support for business travelers -- specifically the wireless and too few tv channels
    • Tips/Secrets: — If you are Diamond HHonors, request a K1S Junior Suite. You'll appreciate the extra space. Odd numbered rooms in the tower get a bright sunrise (but boring view), even rooms a beautiful sunset over the pool from the west.
