“Comfortable & Luxurious Spa-Winery Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Gorgeous roses & fragrant flower plantings greeted us when walking up the path to our Villa & once inside, the Villa interior was perfection! The rooms exude a quiet elegance in a sort of old world French country style with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. The Fang Shui was just about perfect. My first thought was - "Wow, I could live in this space!" There was a subdued color scheme with nice touches like the dark marble topped bar sink/cabinet in dark wood with mini bar and fridge discretely enclosed & a dining/work table with gorgeous light fixture - I met a friend here after business in San Diego & we loved the huge bathroom in marble with both a large shower with a seating bench & two shower heads (one a wand) AND a large jacuzzi tub. Very convenient for two people sharing a room. Our room had a lovely sitting area with small sofa & chairs with reading lamps facing the fireplace next to a sliding glass door looking out to our private palm shaded patio next door to the Spa & pool. (A wonderful extra warm outdoor salt water pool with hot tub area at one end. We indulged in relaxing aromatherapy massages & loved the spa services/gift shop as well). Our room had two large comfy beds done up in crisp white linens & tasteful dark wood bedside tables & dresser with large flat screen tv. Our room special included gratis bottled water & a bottle of SCW Merlot...and the Spa 'special' came with a glass of champage & truffles. The 'passport' we got upon registration included discounts on everything on site from winery & gift shop to spa so we were able to same a bit on some items from the gift shop & restaurant as well. Just a note- it looks like the building for check-in was recently completed - It's a bit hard to find and seems a bit like construction not quite finished - One lovely thing however- I arrived just before dusk - found the check-in building with vaulted, collumned entry and was delighted by the swooping, darting swallows who seem to have decided the high arches would make a perfect home. Roses, swallows, luxurious comfort - just the antidote for today's stress filled life!

South Coast Winery Resort is lower tier experience. Villa's are really 4 tract houses in a quad. They are odd. Night stand on only one side of the bed and the "villa" itself so dismally decorated. Felt tired. Not charming just tired. Did have a nice bathroom and great shower. While at the pool had to hunt down a towel. Pool area had glasses from the night before and was unattended. The wine, yikes, switched to gin that weekend. We ate dinner at the restaurant. Very unremarkable. Maybe return in 10 years. A very unsophisticated experience.

Hi Christine W,

Thank you for your review of South Coast Winery Resort & Spa. We at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa would like to thank you for your recent visit to our winery resort and for your review. We strive to provide each guest with a wonderful experience and first-rate service during their visit. We were disappointed to hear that your experience in our villa did not meet your expectations. That said, South Coast Winery Resort & Spa’s villas were carefully designed to evoke the old-world styles and rustic charms of an authentic countryside villa found in the wine regions of Provence or Tuscany, allowing guests to feel like they really are escaping far away from the everyday. For those desiring a more contemporary style and design, yet not sacrificing on space and privacy, we would recommend you try one of the 50-suites found in our all new luxury hotel tower. Whether your style is modern chic or countryside charm, South Coast offers both while striving to provide the highest standards of excellence and extending the extra special touches our repeat guests have come to know and love: fireplaces; private patios and balconies tucked away in the vineyards; oversized marble and granite baths, with two-person spa tubs; our beyond heavenly beds, complimentary wi-fi and, of course, a specially selected bottle of wine. We value every comment received from our guests, as this provides us with direction for continued improvement. Customer feedback, such as yours, continues to play a contributing factor in the many room upgrades and resort improvements we are implementing today. We hope you'll visit us again soon to enjoy another stay in Southern California's Temecula Valley Wine Country.

We hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

South Coast Winery Resort & Spa Team

If you are going to the wine country of Temecula, you must book a Villa at South Coast Winery and Resort. Four individual villas are clustered in a courtyard with flower gardens and fountains surrounded by vineyards. The rooms are extremely large and each elegantly furnished a bit differently with a sitting area, fireplace, Jacuzzi soaking tub, marble baths with double sink, bar, refrigerator and very comfortable beds. There are a few units that can be joined via double doors and a hall as well as two suites. An outdoor patio for enjoying the scenery and a complimentary glass of wine or bottle of water is and added bonus. Upon check in you’ll get a passport with discounts to wine tasting, the boutique, and even the restaurant. The wines are excellent at South Coast and the tasting room is large and well staffed. The grounds surrounding the winery are filled with flowers in full bloom. Two barrel rooms provide the perfect location for a special occasion. We were so impressed with this facility that we booked the entire facility for an upcoming event. South Coast has recently built an hotel with modern rooms, however, my preference for a comfortable, elegant and romantic stay is definitely the villas. The staff are wonderful and you’ll feel pampered and indulgent. A full service spa and a magnificent salt water pool complete this wonderful resort in the southern wine region. A real find!

Room Tip: All of the villas are wonderful, but if you prefer more privacy ask for one facing the back vineyard...

The winery & resort is approx 1 hour out of San Diego & made for a nice girl's getaway. We arrived & noted how lovely the grounds were. We were early but given a phone call when our villa was ready. Had to keep our luggage with us. No offer to store. Somewhat confusing map to figure out which road to take to which building (also the hotel check in is next to another winery not affiliated). When asking for the directions there was just a point here & there of where we wanted to go. The buildings on the map could be better identified. The main building has the beautiful fountain in front of it & lots of people waiting to get into the tasting room or take a wine tour. We had planned for a wine tour which at $40/pp was something I recommend. It's only an hour, which is long enough & ends with a tasting incl a tiny cheese & fruit plate. Lots of pressure & mention to join their wine club offering members a discount. While free to join, there are cards everywhere you turn to entice you to join. We didn't. Wines are ok but not outstanding. That was fine. Finally got to check into our villa after driving back to the hotel lobby & given the key to drive around to the one we were staying in that had 2 queen beds (I was told that not many of the villas have 2 beds in them when I booked). The villas are in quads--3 other villas attached. Very lovely. Spacious room & bath with nice toiletries, bathrobes, fridge, electric working fireplace that does provide some heat, and a bottle of wine w/wine opener & 2 wine glasses. The private patio was through 2 double doors & had a small table w/2 chairs overlooking the lush vineyard. Really beautiful. We were there on cinquo de mayo & they had a mariachi band, which unfortunately had bad singers off key & could be heard throughout the winery for several hours. Had lunch at the bar earlier which was quite nice. Asked the gift shop if they had cheese to purchase & was told the restaurant could make up a plate if opened but they were closed between lunch & dinner. Really--no cheese to be offered at a winery??? Had dinner reservations in the "award winning" restaurant that evening. Guitarist that was off-key & then lent the mic to a guest requesting to sing a Stevie Nicks song--don't do this--people can't sing & it's annoying to other diners. Service at dinner was fine but not dinner. Will do a separate review on this under Trip Advisor Restaurants. We decided to go elsewhere for breakfast & glad we did. Next day was rainy--too bad--but had morning spa treatments. Very nice pool area & spa with separate areas for men & women to have a steam, sauna & jacuzzi. Chilled/iced towels outside steam room. Lots of treatment rooms. Had a great back massage with Gary. Cucumber water & glass of wine offered. Heat lamps outside of 2nd story of spa where you could lounge for the day & even order lunch. NOTE: The shower area didn't provide any blow dryers, q-tips or anything else that spa resorts usually have so we opted to leave with our hair soaking wet from the steam & go to our room to shower. South Coast Winery please provide at least a blow dryer to allow women to leave with their hair dried. All in all it was a nice getaway but it has it's issues. The grounds & villas are beautiful & the spa treatments quite nice. Would look at other accommodation options should you decide to visit Temecula wine country before staying here again.

Room Tip: TIP: Stay in a villa if you can rather than the hotel. They are nearer to the pool/spa & restau...

Hi Marion M.,

Thank you for your review of South Coast Winery Resort & Spa. We would like to thank you for choosing South Coast for your girl’s getaway vacation. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your villa and room amenities and had a great time on your Behind the Scenes wine tour and enjoyed your spa treatments at the GrapeSeed Spa. However, we were disappointed to hear that you had trouble finding your way around the property, that you did not enjoy the live entertainment at the Vineyard Rose Restaurant as well as the mariachi music from a separate event being held that day, as well as not being able to purchase cheese in the Gift Boutique or use blow dryers in the spa’s shower room.

We had reservations made via outside system and to our surprise we were ask to leave early due to a commitment made via South Coasts reservation system. The resort is beautiful and met all our expectations, but being asked to leave was not so nice. Their claim was the networking system for outside reservations was not their responsibility. Would love to stay again but the bad taste left by this doesn't allow me to try again.

Hi Robert S,

Thank you for your review of South Coast Winery Resort & Spa. We would like to thank you for choosing our winery resort during your stay in Temecula Valley Wine Country. First and foremost we are so glad that our resort met all of your expectations. Having said that we are disappointed to hear that there was some miscommunication between our outside reservations center and our internal reservations system resulting in an earlier than expected check out. Please know that we value every comment received from our guests, as this provides us with direction for continued improvement. Customer feedback continues to play a contributing factor in the many upgrades and resort improvements being implementing. We hope you'll visit us again soon to enjoy another stay in Southern California's Temecula Valley Wine Country.

We spent two nights in the hotel at South Coast Winery. Spacious room, very clean, quiet, nice TV, Kuerig coffee maker in room, great view. Everywhere we went, we had excellent customer service. They really train their employees well and you can tell! Spent a day at the Spa and pool. Had a massage by Gary - he was awesome!! They give you a free glass of wine at the end of the massage - nice treat. The pool was perfect. Surrounded by beautiful flowers and right outside of the spa. Had nice servers coming around. Pool food was very average, but what do you expect... Perfect day outside. We had dinner and the mimosa breakfasts each day at their restaurant. The only reason why I don't give this place 5 stars is because the food is just OK. You don't come here for the food. However, my advice to the Winery is to bring in a top chef... someone that would draw attention to your hotel. Every meal was just OK. But the servers were excellent, the ambiance was perfect and we loved our stay! We will be back!

PS - When you book, ask about specials. We got free breakfasts, gift cert to spa, etc...

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator. It was so quiet and perfect!

While visiting my cousin who lives in Temecula, we treated ourselves to a day at the spa. The facility was sheer luxury. They thought of every decadent detail to heighten the experience of beauty and relaxation even personal consideration of one's needs. They provided slippers, robes, towels, cucumber water and even a complimentary glass of wine & fruit after a fabulous message. All to be enjoyed with surroundings that delight the senses. Visually from upstairs (message area) the foilage and mountains to the jasmine scent cascading through the breeze while listening to the large stone fountain from the entrance below. What I appreciated MOST were the non-chlorinated but rather salt water pool and jacuzzi that left skin and hair soft. Enjoying all the amenities for the day was lovely as was the food and drink availability pool side. It was simply the most perfect pampered day---we loved it!
