The Hart Winery has a tiny tasting room overlooking beautiful vineyards and hills in Temecula. For $5 you can taste five wines, or for $10 you can taste any five (including those on the Reserve list). I'm a big fan of Viognier, and was excited to see a 2006 Viognier on their tasting list that sells for $14.00/bottle. Unfortunately, the bouquet and the finish of the wine resembled vinegar.
Their red wines were much better, and we really enjoyed the 2006 "Three" which sells for $18 a bottle. It is a Southern Rhone-style red wine made from 56% Mourvedre, 22% Syrah, and 22% Grenache. A nice full-bodied red that is slightly dry and has a slight oak aftertaste.
Overall the Hart winery isn't my first choice in Temecula. There are several other wineries that have a much nicer ambiance with a better selection of wines. The plus? A nice row of picnic areas outside which provide a gorgeous view of the vines.
