“Not worth the price of a tasting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

The wines here were not exactly how we wanted to start our temecula wine trip. They start out drinkable and only got worse from there. The staff was knowledgable but it did not make up for the bad tasting wine.

“Lovely Little Winery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

I chose Briar Rose because of the charming photos and it seemed smaller, less commercialized.

This is NOT a place for a large group to visit. They want you to make reservations because the wine tasting is very personalized and unrushed. There is no pressure to buy. This would be a great visit for two to six people.

Chris, the assistant wine maker, was very kind and took time to answer our questions about wine making and various wines offered.

I agree that the music in the tasting room was too loud, but the air temperature was perfect!

“More thorns than petals-Rude, obnoxious staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

My daughter plans a mother's day limo tour of the Temecula wine trail almost every year. Our group usually includes 12-14 women. We try to visit 2 wineries before lunch and 2 after. We made a reservation to visit Briar Rose after lunch however, got a bit behind in our schedule and had not yet had our lunch, so we arrived early to the Briar Rose, thinking that we should not arrive late to our reservation and that we would have lunch afterwards. The staff told us that we could not be accomodated until our pre-arranged time, no problem, there were some picnic tables with umbrellas so we thought we would set out our picnic lunch, eat then go inside at the appointed time. A woman who works there came out and yelled at us that we could not eat our lunch on the premises and that we would have to move on down the road to another winery with picnic grounds. Off putting, to say the least. We did pile back into the limo and went to a neighboring winery with a beautiful pond surrounded by a covered picnic area, had our lunch, purchased wine from them, then headed back to the Briar Rose. Despite having a reservation, there was no special arrangmeent made to accomodate our group. No set area for our winetasting, no staff person assigned to our group and we were made to feel bitterly unwelcomed. With bottles ranging in price from $70 on up I expected some very good wine. It was mediocre by even Temecula standards. Having spent a significant amount of time in Napa and Sonoma, and the Santa Ynez wine regions, the prices and the snootiness were laughable. We were a group of mothers and daughters having a lovely day out until we hit the Briar Rose. In fact, when we were all back in our limo on the way to another winery, our limo driver said that he had been threatened by the staff to "never bring a bunch of drunks" to the Briar Rose again. I would not recommend that experience to anyone. It was awful.

“Nope”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

Not a great experience. The greeter/check in person was curt if not rude. The price for six tastes was expensive -- $25 or $30 for the two menu choices. Tasting room was too cool and had loud music playing. Wines were OK but not great. Several were made with grapes from the Russian River and Alexander Valley areas, not local. Strange. No cheese, nuts or crackers to go with the tastings. When the person pouring in the tasting room was asked if the tasting fee would translate into a purchase discount, he didn't know and said I would have to ask the check-in lady. When I did she dismissed my question with "if you belong to the wine club." Two recommendations: the winery staff should take a class in customer relations/experience and visitors should take a pass until there is evidence they have.

“Lovely little winery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Very friendly and helpful staff. Reservations needed. Wine tasting starts on the hour and you go from the waiting area to the tasting area. You get to sit down! Whoo hoo!!! Buildings are designed in a Sleeping Beauty style. Very quaint. Will go again.
