Although in a remote area it is a great location for long day trips to see a diiferent side of California. Long possible day trips include Yosmite NP, Sequoia NP , Mojave Desert, and Joshua Tree NP. For rail fans the Loop is internationally famous. And, this is the vegetable and fruit producing area of our country. Fascinating to see miles and miles of planted crops with so many varieties. Also possible to drive less than an hour to Lancaster, take a less than two hour train to downtown LA, visit and return. So remote, yes, but much to do.
The resort itself is nice, but about what I expect for timeshare units. My only complaint, the layout (single bedroom unit) was awkward. Single bath with two doors and a long, difficult to use hallway between the bath and bedroom. The kitchen appliances were reduced size (could not rinse a dinner plate without splashing water everywhere) and dishware and other cooking items were minimal.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Room service was available three days a week. Some activities, but not as many as at some timeshares

Last week of April 2013 drove through the dry Mojave desert, then up the distant mountains which grew ever greener and changable as we reached higher levels, until several thousand feet above the desert (about 3,700ft above sea level), up in the Tehachapi Mountains, we found a small community at Tehachapi followed by an even smaller community of Stallion Springs and there we arrived at our destination, Stallion Springs Resort.

The location is a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The air is clear, clean and fresh, the sky was an endless blue with only occasional puffy white clouds during the time we were there and the temperature a surprisingly warm low to mid 70s at midday most days. The resort is small and situated near a local golf course which is so close we found several "lost" balls below our unit which we have kept as useful souvernirs of our lovely time there. The unit had two good size bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus a washer/dryer off the main bedroom with a tub of free detergent (very much appreciated). The sitting room area was large and had a gas fired log effect fireplace which we used in the evenings as the days cooled down a bit after the midday warmth. The was an attractive patio off the sitting room with large round table and patio chairs and we spent some time each day just, "whiling away our time" sitting out there enjoying the view and a good cup of coffe, or something stronger in the early evenings!

The only downside and unfortunately it was a big downside, was the kitchen. It wasn't just small or tiny it was minute, hopelessly organised and badly laid out. It was basically a wet bar with a fridge and mini dishwasher that was useless to use as there was not enough room, so we gave up and wahed everything up by hand, although just a difficult because of the ridiculously tiny sink and lack of drying up area. There was almost no food preparation area and any space there was was filled with gadgets, and other kitchen stuff. We had to put most kitchen items away into a drawer in the sitting room before being able to start using the kitchen. Then worse was to come in the form of the very high dining table and high chairs which were very uncomfortable indeed. We ended up leaning against the table with our plates of food just inches away from our chins.

Although small or partial kitchens are not uncommon in resorts, this was exceptionally minute and very problematic, made worse because of the remote location of the resort. It wasn't as if you had many or any (apart from one at the golf club and maybe one in the town) restaurants or cafes or any other eating establishment within 10 miles of mountain roads or more. So cooking your own meals was essential unless you made do with sandwiches on a daily basis.

Having said all that, if they could replace/renovate/rebuild the kitchen entirely, top to bottom, then that resort could be one of the nicest we have been to. The staff are very helpful, polite and accommodating and they were a delight to know and who were a mine of very useful and helpful information. We were taken on a local wine tour at no cost (unless you bought lunch or wine or gifts etc) by staff from the resort. Although there is no swimming pool, there is a nice hot tub on site which we used most evenings and we understand that during the summer months, use is made of the swimming pool at the golf club nearby at not cost.

This resort is probably more suited to couples or groups of adult friends rather than families with young children as there is little available for young children to keep them occupied and interested. Having said that, it was great for us to find a resort with such a peaceful and beautiful situation without the need to have loud music or noisy activities invading the quiet surroundings.

We were there the same time as the previous review - March 16 - 23. We exchanged for this timeshare because we went to the square dance festival in Bakersfield that weekend. While it rained in Bakersfield, it was snowing at the higher elevation. The trip back to the timeshare Sat. nite was a white-knuckler. The last tail lights turned off about a mile before the resort so I had to make my own tracks. The following afternoon coming back again from Bakersfield about 6pm, we got "home" about an hour before they closed the main road. Schools were closed on Monday so we stayed in.

The resort has an activity (wine/cheese party, wine tour, Bingo, Mary Kay session and Horse/Ostrich/Alpaca tour) almost every day. Videos/DVDs and puzzles are free to borrow and they have a trading library. There is only one public computer but free WIFI in the units. It wasn't busy at the public computer so I was able to check email, etc. Staff is very nice and helpful. Because of the 5-8" snow fall, the golf course didn't open until Thursday when we had signed up for the critter tour.

We had a 2 bedroom unit for just the two of us, but I would hate to have to cook for the 6 it accomodates. The 18" of counter is tough to navigate with. Some of our furniture had been updated but initially there was a musty smell (like dampness) to the main living area. The plastic tablecloth they asked you to use on the dining table smelled so I turned that in. They replaced it in a day or two. The drawer in the movable cart in the kitchen (lack of storage) fell apart so we had to keep the silverware tray in the living area until maintenance was able to fix it (then the glue smell stayed for a while longer). Storage in the bathrooms did not exist except for a narrow rolling plastic storage bin in each bathroom. If they had used a normal vanity instead of a table style for the sink, it would have provided shelves or drawers. We used one of these storage bin for a night stand in the master bedroom. The other one was used as an end table between the big chair and the sofa. The end table provided was too low.

Bed was reasonably comfortable and the towels were soft and big, though not very fluffy. I ran out of hot water for the whirlpool tub as I was filling it while my husband was showering. We enjoyed our quiet time (3 puzzles, 3 movies & two books) along with some nice drives in the area. There are several good resturants in Tehachapi.

Came to relax and work on a special project. 6 inches of snow on the day after arriving helped me finish the project in two days. Rooms are nice and spacious so being snowed in was pleasant. Kitchen was tiny new units we were told will correct that. Dish washer so small the two of us had to do dishes every night. Equally small sink and counter space was 18 x18". Jacuzzi tub in master bath made up for not being able to use the outside jacuzzi. No exercise room pool at golf club half mi away. Golf deals are good but course was too soggy to play after the snow melted.
