“Village Grill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Nothing fancy, just a nice friendly hometown atmosphere. Large varied menu, including childrens and seniors menu. Great service and daily specials; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plenty of food . . . you don't leave hungry. Try it, you'll like it.

“Excellent Breakfast - Service Was Very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We had breakfast here, I had the choriso scramble and the wife had the 'light eaters' breakfast. They were both very good, served as expected, and the price was very reasonable.
I liked the choriso because it wasn't greasy and spicey, I like the flavor of choriso but sometimes it can be a bit sharp. This was one of the best I've had, mixed in with the eggs made it very tasty. They served it with salsa (very tasty) and home fries.
The staff kept coming by to be sure we were taken care of and were very friendly and appreciative.
Well worth the time for breakfast and I would hazard to guess their lunches and dinners are good as well.

“Down home cookin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

At the end of the main street is "Village Grill" with their fantastic breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Like going back 40 years in time. Just like Tehachapi, it's 1973 there. Huevos Ranchero's or just plain eggs over easy, hash browns, toast and good coffee- about $6.00. Friendly folks and stall- just can't beat it. If you are in town, see if there's a car show going on with vintage hot rods and classic cars. If you are enroute from Bakersfied to Mojave-Las Vegas, stop there for an early or late breakfast. Frank S sez- big mistake if you don't. Stop for dinner on your way- the other way.Watch the trains go by.

“The atmosphere of a small town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

If you don't like small towns then you wouldn't understand the Tehachapi atmosphere and the sense of 'home'. The food was OK, I had a Reuben Sandwich even though I'm primarily a vegetarian these days. I break the rules for Reuben sandwiches as I have been sampling them all over the world. This one did not make the top 5 but it was still a good sandwich.
The fact that this town is such a well kept secret is perhaps the most alluring factor for me. In the hills just off of the Mojave desert, the town boasts of four seasons though I only experienced late spring / early summer there for a couple of days last week. First week of June.
The people were friendly and you could tell there was a distinct pride in the town. The town looks like people there care how it appears. The main street and several side streets were nicely maintained with tastefully appointed signage along the streets.
I particularly enjoyed the American Farmer values that were evident by the weathered skin on the farmers that wore t-shirts proclaiming their 2nd amendment rights (bear arms). Nice friendly place but nobody is going to take this town away from these people. You either love the atmosphere or you don't. I intend to go back myself. It's very small town America where it appears that people would give you the shirt off of their backs as long as you aren't the type that is wanting to steal it from them.
Lunch hour was bustling, clearly one of the towns favorite places to meet a friend for lunch. It's a very informal atmosphere as you order at the counter and then wait for someone to bring you your meal. They yell your name across the hall and then come find you when you holler back. It won't take long for people to get to know who you are in this town if you stick around more than a few days. So if you got something to hide you can do that in Tehachapi too I suppose but if you throw a rock into this pond, the ripples reach all of the shores if you know what I mean. Be nice, consider the golden rule as though it were made of gold and life here could be wonderful.
