“Sweet getaway spot on North shore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We loved the quiet location, the spotless room, the "partial view" from our second story room that was better than most views, the helpful staff, and the tasty breakfast. Public lake access across the street, but it was just as nice in the pool or hot tub. On site laundry was a trip saver! Price was right!

Room Tip: 2nd or third floor room if you want a view.

The faded paint belies the internal beauty of this North Tahoe getaway. It's across the street from the lake in Tahoe Vista and includes a free breakfast, nice hot tub, small kids pool and free wifi. The rooms are clean and spacious with 2 doors, the entry door and patio door. Downstairs rooms have a patio by the pool where you can eat great waffles and the upstairs rooms have a view of the lake. Next store is a little mom and pop taco shack called El Sancho where you can get great fish tacos and chips and sit outside or there's a steak house a few doors up. We payed $89 weekdays. We've gone to North Shore many times and stayed at a lot of motels but this will be our spot. Be sure to try Steamers pizza at Kings Beach. It's the best!

We booked our stay at the Firelite Lodge based on other TripAdvisor reviews, and it exceeded our expectations. While it may appear to be a standard motor lodge from the outside, the hotel offers so much more - particularly when you consider the extremely reasonable rates when compared to other hotels in the Tahoe Vista area.

We stayed in a king room on the third floor, which I would recommend over second floor rooms for the added balcony. The room was extremely clean and it appeared to have been recently painted and redone. (In particular, the bathroom was very nicely done with a stylishly modern vanity and sink, tile work, and floor.) We loved the view of Lake Tahoe and the easy access to the beach across the street.

It's the little details that make a big difference. We appreciated the large flatscreen TV over the gas fireplace that offered a decent selection of cable channels. The towels were thick and of good quality - a rarity for most budget hotels. The wifi worked great and connected easily. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was incredibly quiet (with the slider completely closed). We did not use the pool but did take advantage of the large spa, which was clean and a perfect temperature. We also did not take advantage of the continental breakfast but I noted the waffle maker and fresh fruit available for waffle toppings - nice! The lobby teas were of good quality (Good Earth, among others) and the lobby coffee was delicious.

I would offer just a couple of suggestions to the hotel managers. The four pillows were all pretty soft. I would switch out two of those soft pillows for firm ones. The wall opposite our bed was completely devoid of artwork. Some photographs or prints of the Tahoe area would be a nice addition.

Bottom line: Firelite Lodge is a wonderful hotel at a great value in a beautiful area - what more could you ask for!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor if you want a balcony with a view of Lake Tahoe.

Northshore accomodations at Lake Tahoe can be hit or miss - this is definately a hit. Great location across from the beach, (and boat launch). Lovely pool and hot tub (hot!). We had lower floor room with outdoor seating area. Room heaters are actually gas fireplaces - nice ambiance. Bathroom very very nice. There was microwave, fridge, counter and cabinet space. Never heard the family in the room above us - super quiet. Fairly priced, and glad we stayed there.

Unlike most north shore motels, most of Firelite's rooms run parallel to the shore, so many rooms have great lake views. Third floor rooms 25, 26, 27 all have fabulous views with balconies. (Other rooms may also, especially on the third floor.) Squeaky clean; gas fireplaces; 'fridge, microwave, sink; good TV; comfortable bed; lovely pool & hot tub; breakfast. Immediately across the street from a small public beach. Close to all north shore activities. We will definitely stay here again. A gem.

Room Tip: Third floor rooms have best views.

A great place to stay on North Shore, California side of Tahoe. Friendly and helpful hosts. Good location across from easy lake access. Clean rooms with fireplace/heaters. Lots of breakfast choices. Midweek winter rates are especially good.

Room Tip: top floor has partial lake views. bottom floor has easy access to swim pool in summer

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Stayed Friday and Saturday nights over MLK day weekend on the second level (room 17). The room was SUPER clean and obviously recently refurbished (very faint smell of paint, everything looking brand new and some unfinished wood trim).

We had everything we needed: reliable and easily accessible wi-fi, microwave, fridge, coffee maker. The continental breakfast was perfect: coffee, hot cocoa, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, waffles that you make yourself, fruit, muffins. The beds are comfortable too and you get lots of pillows!

Our room did not have a view, but most of the rooms seemed to have a fantastic view of the lake and mountains. The room was heated by a gas fireplace controlled by the thermostat and it worked great. Front desk staff are friendly and professional. Location is close to ski resorts. Lots of restaurants and safeway nearby if you need groceries.

I must say, you have GOT to visit the little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant next door to the hotel called El Sancho's -- it was AWESOME.

The one and only con (and reason for the 4 stars) is that the walls are thin. We could hear our neighbor's TV (I'm sure it was turned up pretty loud) while we were trying to sleep. Luckily I had earplugs which worked great!

For the price, I expected much less, but was VERY pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: Our room did not have a view, but most looked like they did, so request a room with a view if you wa...
