“Great lakefront location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2011

Nice lodge with great private beach. Large lakeview rooms are very clean but furnishings are somewhat dated (older pull-out sofa bed was not comfortable for our teenager). Seems to be popular with large family groups. Family owned and operated.

Room Tip: Ask for a 2nd floor room away from the street.

We stayed here for three nights with our children and had two separate rooms. The rooms are large and well equipped, although slightly dated now I guess. But, the location of the hotel is right on Lake Tahoe and it's beautiful. The hotel provides sun loungers for guests, and it's a 30 second stroll from the room to the private beach on the lake. The hotel also offers water sports such as kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, dinghies, pedaloes and with only the hotel guests using them there's no worries about booking (although, just to make a point with the hotel, I think it would be helpful if they provided a price list of activities on arrival as it seems at first as though they are for free and it is only when you have to sign a form with the beach guy that you realise you're paying!). The rooms are kept very clean with practical touches such as a bucket and towel outside your door to dunk your feet in to avoid bringing sand into the rooms (which with our three children was a great help!). For families this hotel is great - there are loads of beach toys hanging around to play with, and for adults there's a double size hammock in the shade. The staff are friendly and helpful, and we wished we'd booked an extra night.

For many years we have meant to go and stay and finally made it this year! We had a wonderful time and have already booked for next year! Ideally located for hikes, rafting, mini golf and tons of other fun stuff but really the attraction is the location and warmth of the hospitality - thank you Mourelatos family for making such a lovely destination and see you soon.

Unless you're the snooty type who insists on 5 star everything (in which case head up Northstar way to Hogwarts, um, I mean the Ritz-Carlton School of Skicraft and Trust Fund Liquidation), you will enjoy the spacious and comfortable rooms angled cleverly to afford all the rooms a lakeview. For the best views, rent an end unit with a kitchen. Pricier but worth it. You'll save on dining out.

We had one of our best family vacations at Mourelatos from July 4th - 12th with my 6-year old and 8 year-old. Amazing view. The kids loved the sandy beach. Lots of sand toys to play with for free. Also had a fire pit to make s'mores, ping pong, hammock, frisbee golf, raft, hot tubs, etc. The water is shallow near the beach, so the kids swam in the lake a lot. This is a family owned and operated resort, which makes it a more laid back, friendly experience than the larger resorts. We loved it and will be back next summer!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 132 which was second closest to the beach. A few steps from our door and you'...

Mourelatos was a great experience and can’t wait to go back. I gave it a 5 star for its’ 2 star rating.

Room:
The room was fine and plenty of space for the 3 of us. Bathrooms were very small and if you are on the bottom floor then you will hear creaking from the upstairs room, but besides that it was great. We asked for a toaster in our room, which already had a mini frig and microwave. Great for making waffles, toast etc, for the morning. The beds were very comfortable too.

The location can’t be beat and the pictures don’t lie. The staff was great and very helpful. The beach was so nice with beach chairs and umbrellas. There is a water trampoline, rafts, kayaks, sand toys, hammock and a propane fire pit. There is also bbq’s that you can use during your stay. I can’t say enough about this place…I will be back for sure.
The ice cream shack across the street is owned by the resort and is great to have a snack in the evenings. Love the bistro table and chairs outside each room. Door was left open a lot during the day and evening…I always felt safe and I am a single mom traveling with my kids.

Local Area/Restaurants:

Safeway is located within 1 mile away and very convenient.
Caliente Mexican Restaurant –We ate in the restaurant and found it very pricy and the food was not very good. There was a great balcony for the bar area and that looked nice, but I would not go back for dinner.

Jiffy’s Pizza was very close and you could walk to it but we had it delivered….very good.

Captain Jon’s – again very pricey but it was delish! Had the rib-eye steak and it was so tender and tasty with great service. In the summer the larger part of the restaurant is closed, so we ate at the smaller place on the water where the bar is located. I had my 2 kids there (10 & 11) and even though it looked more for adults they didn’t treat me any different and they did have a kids menu (it was not advertised).

Char-Pit - Good tasty burgers

Miniature Golfing – Went to Carnelian Bay and found a new golf place that the kids loved. There was one in King Beach too, but the one in Carnelian Bay looked newer and nicer.

Northstar Village - Nice day trip to walk around. They have roller skate rentals during the summer and ice skating during the winter.

This was a wonderful trip and we hated to leave. I can’t wait to go back. This was just a great place and location.

From when we first arrived at the resort, it's has a amazing setting. The lady at front desk was very nice she gave me suggestions on places to eat and ski. When we walked in the door to our room, they only words that could come out of me were "WOW", the room smell very clean, fireplace had kept room warm before our arrival. Everything was perfectly in order, beds were nicely made, bathroom was extremely clean with towels foled to perfection, you could just tell the housekeeper takes a lot a lot pride and time to make everyone experience a pleasant and home warm feeling. The view to the lake was a big wow, very nice to able to take a walk down along the lake. I highly recommend this place to anyone, no matter what the price you pay it's worth every cent.
