“Good seasonal rental, Refurbished cottages on Lake Tahoe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Clean bungalows, good mattresses, beautiful views & beach access. Great location, Has pool but needs more amenities. Internet connection is spotty. Staff is helpful, No restaurant or fitness center, but plenty of local attractions

Room Tip: Prefer the rooms above road to beachside cottages, quieter and forested and more secluded.

I had my grandkids come to visit me for the 1st time and had seen Tahoe Sands on a previous trip. We arrived there early and the desk had me check in. They gave me a car pass to let us start to enjoy the property. Kids loved the beach and the playground. I called the front desk at 4 and our room was ready. Was very impressed with the one bedroom cabin across the street on the hillside. It was very clean and the beds were so comfortable. Had a nice kitchen table for us to gather and eat. Room was quiet and felt safe. The only litte complaint was the front door a litte thin but did have a bolt lock. All in all we enjoyed our stay immensely and wil stay there again.

If there are a lot of you, and your accommodations don't matter, this place may be okay. However, beware of the insides. These buildings are from the 60's, and most look pretty much the same. A few have been renovated, but the low ceilings and small rooms are just that. With all the gorgeous lake views, you would think someone would care enough to really fix this place up. It is really a shame, that whoever is in charge is allowing this to happen. Furthermore, the outdoor furniture for the rooms and beach is old and in need of replacement! This is an okay place for kids to play if that is a concern, but not for adults who expect more from a place they choose to vacation.

We stayed here this past weekend on business. We checked out room 403, which is right next to the hillside, and directly beneath a local residence (non-resort). As we started to unload the car and move our personal items into the cabin, I noticed a car that was parked directly in front of the cabin on the north side. The car had two young men on the inside. One of them tried to peek into the cabin and was staring at our belongings. Also, I went to the bathroom and was victimized by a peeping Tom, but on a second thought, he might have been trying to break into the cabin. Try to avoid this place- the price is good but safety is not so great.

We went during fourth of July, so it was packed, and this was the only place that had a vacancy in the area. We stayed for one night, and overall the rooms were fine. It was about 85 degrees outside, and it was HOT, HOT, HOT in the room. There's no AC and when that sun starts to set, the heat just beats through the windows. There was no ceiling fan in the bedroom, but there was one in the living area. We were happy to have a separate living area with a closed bedroom, since we have a 9 month old who goes to bed early. The bed was a full size, so was a bit uncomfortable with two people. There were no toiletries, like soap or extra sheets for the fold out bed. The fold out bed felt like you're sleeping directly on springs. Overall, the place was fine, but if you can book in advance, I would say rent a house in Tahoe.

We stayed at Tahoe Sands over a few years and keep coming back because its quiant and great value on weekends in ski season. There are motel style units with kitchenette and there the cabins on the sand. My preference is the cabin which is larger than it looks. I can't find pics of the cabin though. The cabin's interior is warm timbers and a very decently sized bedroom with a ensuite that is sizeable. The lounge/kitchen area was big enough that we didn't get in each other's way. The room rates were fabulous, and it's about 30 minutes drive to Alpine Meadows Ski resort, Homewood Ski resort and Northstar ski resort. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they put on bbq's and smores events. The staff helped us with questions about the locality, best places to eat, that sort of thing. It's rustic, older style and very very very nice, especially for the price. As a timeshare condo, you might transfer your timeshare holiday here too. Overall, it's gorgeous, well situated and has million dollar views if you are on the beach-side (not the area on the hill). But the cabins are far nicer than the motel-style rooms.

Room Tip: ask for the cabins on the beach.

I just spent one week at the tahoe sands. The view of the lake and mountains are picture perfect but the bad customer service given by Juan the front desk man and Joanne Bailey the manager was dissappointing. When I called to inquire when full service housekeeping was, I was rushed and given inadequate info. by Joanne. At checkout, Juan gave me much attitude when I checked out at 10am but took a few more minutes to load my belongings into my car. I think retraining in excellent customer service is greatly needed for the staff .
