“Wonderful Meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We have tried and failed in past years to get a reservation because we waited to the last minute, but this year we finally got lucky and got a window table for 4 due to a cancellation. I am so glad we kept trying as it was well worth the wait! The restaurant is small but laid out very well. Even if you don't have a window seat (one entire wall is windows!) you still get a view unless you're at the bar. Our server Jeremy was great, very knowledgeable about several of the wines we asked about and more than happy to get us a taste if there was an open bottle. The wine list had a great selection that fit all tastes and wallets. (Don't overlook the $8 Malbec - really tasty!) The menu is small but has a variety of every type of food you could want, from vegetarian pasta, seafood, fowls, bison, and beef. We had the duck and goat cheese rillette for the appetizer and it was delicious. Our mains were the halibut, lamb lion, and diver scallops, which can be either small plate or main sized. Although one in our party thought his halibut a bit dry, the rest of us were extremely pleased. The service was unhurried, which made for a really relaxing evening. Reservations are a must, especially on the weekend. I would not recommend waiting until the day you want to dine, however you might get lucky like we did!

“Simply wonderful in every aspect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

If you like great food and superb service with a fantastic view, then this is the place to go. The wine list is extensive and the menu fabulous. We had the duck duet which appears to be a signature dish and the halibut which was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Both were excellent as well as the wine we selected. The service was very good and not intrusive. If you insist on the best, then this is a great choice.

“Good food, slow service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

We decided at the last minute to phone for a reservation and were able to secure a table inside. Outside looked nicer overlooking the lake, but no tables were available. Inside was just fine. We enjoyed a nice glass of wine while waiting for our salads. They were good, but then there was a long wait between courses that we felt was too long. We ended up being there about 2 hours for dinner which was a little longer than we'd planned. The food was really good so the wait was worth it. Next time we'll allow more time and will call earlier to get an outside table to enjoy the view.

“Excellence Without Pretense”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013 via mobile

Our family vacation at Tahoe usually includes one 4 star restaurant and that has always meant Wolfdales, but this year at my daughter's suggestion, we went to Christy Hill and were very impressed. The restaurant has been around for some thirty years, but three years ago Andrew Shimer became the executive chef. His deft hand was apparent from the moment we walked in and until the time we left. First of all, though a small space, CH is a lovely, intimate space that creates an ambience that produces a sense of anticipation that this was going to be a top-notch dining experience. We waited only minutes till our table was cleared and reset. Our server, JB, was an old hand at gourmet dining, remembering us from when he took care of us at the now closed Boulevard restaurant. He described to us the details of preparation and contents of each of the menu choices, and had no problem with leaving out or substituting ingredients depending on dietary requirements. Amongst the small plates we tried included the pan roasted diver scallop, served with a sweet corn chowder of halibut, hominy, shrimp, fave beans and fingerling potatoes; the pan roasted gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms and English peas, and the house cured smoked salmon served over potato latkes. Entrees tried included Moroccan lamb loin, served with olive stuffed piquilo peppers; braised short rib of bison; and fresh pappardelle pasta served with apricot braised chicken. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful and the different combinations of ingredients were well matched. We shared two desserts, the white peach macadamia nut crumble seved with vanilla bean gelato that was fantastic, and summer berry shortcake that was not as good because the pastry was hard and had little taste. Corkage was $20 per bottle as expected. The total cost per couple including gratuity was $110, which considering the overall quality of the meal, was well worth it. We all agreed it was a superb dining experience we would love to repeat!

“Why did I not know about this place?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

A friend recently recommended this place. I've been coming to Tahoe for many years and just hadn't stumbled across this jewel. The location is exceptional. Great lake views. Food was 5 star! I had the Halibut and my wife the Scallops. Yum! Service was perfect - just right amount of attention without being intrusive. Recommend reservations as they seemed to be turning lots of people away. Prices are fair for the quality and location.
