“Great place to come with kids.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

We've come to the Stanford Alpine Chalet every winter for years. The place is small (16 rooms?). The rooms are designed to fit 3-5 people each, so there are frequently a bunk bed and a double, and each room has its own bath. The rooms are far from fancy (dresser drawers often fall out, bathroom fixtures sometimes broken) but recent renovations (paint, windows) make it pleasant enough. Besides, who wants to be in the hotel room when there is so much to do with family in the Tahoe area?. Upstairs is a large community area with a fireplace, games, toys, magazines, books. People sit around and chat in the evenings, although sad to say, now with free wireless, most people just stare at their own screens. There is coffee and tea available round-the-clock and hors d'oeuvres at 5. Also, a wonderful breakfast comes with the room and a full dinner can be purchased on site for $22. A jitney takes you to and from Alpine Meadows ski slope although you can walk easiily enough. The kids love the sledding hills adjacent and across the street (sleds provided) . Overall, it is a great place to stay. The only downside--over holidays it is VERY expensive.
