“Short and worth it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

It was hard to find from the black canyon road, so we found it from the highway. It had a few short steep parts, but we were able to make itup with a 2 year-old in a toddler ack pack. Had great views from the top.

“Pick an easy or moderate short hike into wilderness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This is a great hike--the first part to the falls and bridge is maybe a half mile and perfect for little kids. There's a small pond in the creek that kids (supervised) can play in after the water settles down mid-summer. Take some time at the trail head to read about the area. You need a wilderness permit to go beyond the bridge, available at the parking lot (just fill it out, keep your part of it and put the free "application" into the slot). The trail gets steeper after the bridge, and a couple spots are fairly steep but well prepped with "stairs" of rocks and ledges. No danger, and we've met 90-year-olds going up to the lake. About an hour hike. The lake has some fish in it, has a shallow accessible area where the trail comes in, and plenty of semi-secluded spots to have lunch. No tables or restrooms etc. If mid-winter, very cold and little or no snow like Dec. 2011 you can have great ice skating on it. Usually not accessible once it snows unless you know how to snowshoe and deal with uncertain snow depths and weather.

“Spectacular lake!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

The hike is a fun one, not easy on bad knees though. Lots of stone steps up to Eagle lake. The lake is stunning and the hike up to it is highly recommended!

“Avoid the crowds for extra special lake view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Well, this isn't really 'flat', like the guidebooks say...a fair amount of steps. Get there early though and you can enjoy the reward of the serene lake with surrounding mountains reflecting the peacefulness. Something really touching about natures quiet moments. Even the lone duck reveres the moment.
