I love to stay at the River Ranch Lodge. We make it up to Tahoe every couple of months and always stay there. Some rooms are small and noisier than others, but if you talk to the person when making the reservation, you can try to get a quieter or larger room. The place is not new, but the decor is very "lodge". The beds are very comfortable.

The free continental breakfast is fantastic. The restaurant is one of the best in Tahoe City. It is nice to just wander back to your room after dinner and a couple glasses of wine.

Location is great also. I can't find much to complain about. I have always had a great time there.

I have loved River Ranch for many years, both as a local and visitor. So it is a disappointment to say I would never stay there again.

When I made the reservation, the front desk failed to inform me that they were putting us in the handicap accessible room, which is located on the corner (very little privacy), under the stairs (noisy) and on the first floor. The room is very awkward space and uncomfortable (don't get me wrong I'm happy they have an ADA option for such a small Inn).

The first morning someone let their kids run loose on the stairs at 6:30am and we heard every single pounding step. When I asked the front desk to move us, they refused. They girl at the front desk even said there were vacancies but still refused, saying she couldn't change our room. They did not offer to discount the room even though they failed to advise us we were in the ADA room. I think they treated the situation very poorly.

I was so frustrated with the customer service of the lodge and disappointed in the room, I will never stay there again.

The deck & restaurant were fun, accomadating and provided good customer service the whole stay.

We were disappointed by our stay. The bathrooms smelled of mildew and fecal bacteria. The shower curtain was moldy.

Our room rate for two queen beds was $130, but we had to pay an additional $10 for each of our children. This was not a good value, considering that there are many other places where children can stay free.

We chose the hotel because of the location. It was very close to Alpine Meadows, where we were skiing. It was a very convenient location relative to the ski area. We would recommend this hotel to travelers who want to be close to the ski area, who don't mind about bathroom cleanliness, and don't mind paying a little extra for average housing.

My family and I just got back from a quick ski trip and we were lucky enough to stay at the River Ranch. It has so much personality and feels like a true "Tahoe" lodge. The rooms are decorated "mountain style" and are so reasonably priced. Ours had a fantastic view of the river and I slept so well there (was it the sound of the river that lulled me to sleep?) We woke in the morning to a complimentary continental breakfast and sat right over the water. What a way to start the day! Location is perfect; right between Tahoe City and Squaw Valley. Two major ski areas within five minutes drive.

The Restaurant exceeded our expectations. We sat by the fireplace for an apres ski cocktail and the manager came over to seat us when they opened for dinner. He recomended we try the sesame seared Ahi appetizer and it was incredible. We wished we had ordered two orders. The filet mignon was perfect and my husband still raves about the rack of lamb he had.

You can find a great room and great food a lot of places, but the overall feel at the River Ranch is what we can't wait to go back for.

By the way, after reading the other reviews about the River Ranch in the summer, we can't wait to return this summer and bring our bikes.
