My family and I just got back from a quick ski trip and we were lucky enough to stay at the River Ranch. It has so much personality and feels like a true "Tahoe" lodge. The rooms are decorated "mountain style" and are so reasonably priced. Ours had a fantastic view of the river and I slept so well there (was it the sound of the river that lulled me to sleep?) We woke in the morning to a complimentary continental breakfast and sat right over the water. What a way to start the day! Location is perfect; right between Tahoe City and Squaw Valley. Two major ski areas within five minutes drive.

The Restaurant exceeded our expectations. We sat by the fireplace for an apres ski cocktail and the manager came over to seat us when they opened for dinner. He recomended we try the sesame seared Ahi appetizer and it was incredible. We wished we had ordered two orders. The filet mignon was perfect and my husband still raves about the rack of lamb he had.

You can find a great room and great food a lot of places, but the overall feel at the River Ranch is what we can't wait to go back for.

By the way, after reading the other reviews about the River Ranch in the summer, we can't wait to return this summer and bring our bikes.

We've stayed at the River Ranch twice and it's one of our favorite places. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have breathtaking views of the Truckee River. This is a lively spot to be, especially on the weekends when the rafters are out in full force. The food was excellent, I recomend the venison. Superb! Popular place so it gets noisy during the day but we had a great time. Tip: Don't get a room over the kitchen.

Stayed at River Ranch three times. My mom's favorite place in Tahoe. Rooms right over river are rustic and comfortable with balconies. A truly fantastic bar/restaurant!! Interesting menu. Great morning breakfast. Only negative is the beds. A little stiff to me. My husband had no complaints, though. Will definitely return!! Can't beat the value!!

A very pleasant hotel located by the Truckee River. We only stayed overnight but it must be very pleasant to spend a few days here, have a drink on the patio by the river in summer, or in the welcoming bar in winter, or dinner in the lovely dining room, and enjoy the lovely surroundings. Staff is wonderful. Not far from Lake Tahoe.
