“Clean, quiet....Great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I came to the Pepper Tree Inn desperately searching for a clean room, after having a terrible experience at another local motel. Jessica at the front desk was so kind and helpful, she got us a very reasonable priced room in the tower that has a great view of Lake Tahoe! The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Plus there is the added bonus of a free breakfast downstairs, not just a roll and coffee, a very nice spread. Thanks Pepper Tree for a great stay!

Room Tip: If you want a great view of the Lake choose a room on the 5th floor or higher.

Biggest thing for us when we stay at a hotel is cleanliness of the room. The room was nearly spotless. Great selection of TV channels. We had a room on the 6th floor with a huge jacuzzi tub. Fits 2 people with plenty of space. The tub was very relaxing and jets were fully functional. The view was amazing. Staff was extremely friendly and check in/out was a breeze. Continental Breakfast wasn't that great as far as food variety and quality and the room was ridiculously too small, but hey, its free food. The fridge and microwave were invaluable for storing food for those who can'f afford to eat out every meal. The room even had a walk in closet. Bed was very comfortable to sleep in, but we are not very picky in that regard.

The reason it gets 4 stars is lack of sound deadening insulation and old construction You can hear pretty much every foot step and creak above you, but the best was hearing the terrible local band outside completely butcher some of the best songs ever written. Another huge negative for most people would be that wifi didn't work. It wasn't a big deal at all for me, since we brought a tablet and I set up my phone as a mobile hotspot. I remember reading other reviews about wifi not working, so I would plan on not having it, or having an alternate means of connecting if you stay here.

Overall, though, we were more than satisfied and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms face the Lake Tahoe, but the highest floors give you the best view. Also, there is a large...

Location to lake, marina, great restaurants, packaged store very convenient. After hours from 12:00AM-2:30AM very noisy when the bars let out. Inn service great, nice pool, room was clean, but needs a better cleaning of baseboards and ceiling fan. Wi-Fi reception was very good.

Room Tip: Seventh floor offered a great view of Lake Tahoe, as I believe floors 5 & 6 would offer as well.

We followed other reviewers' tips, and booked a room with a view of the lake on the 6th or 7th floor.

Our welcome was friendly and informative.

There were three of us in our room, which had a queen and a double size bed. Space was limited but sufficient for living out of our suitcases for our one-night stay. My wife uses a smaller-size mobility scooter, but she can walk short distances, so we could leave it in the car. It has a removable battery, so we only needed to take the battery to the room to recharge it. There would not have been space for it or a wheelchair in the room. We experienced a peak fifteen minutes at breakfast when there weren't enough seats for everyone. Breakfast provision was fine. We stayed one night only, so we did not use any of the facilities except the combined grinder and coffee maker in the room.

From the point of view of location, I don't think there is better in Tahoe City, and we recommend a 6th or 7th floor room and would certainly return again.

Room Tip: Lake view on floors 6 or 7.

This is a small town. Touristy, which lends to major traffic problems on the weekend. It has a great beach across the street and a great view of the lake. I was on the 5th floor. It was an our from the Casinos at Stateline which is next to South Lake Tahoe. Nice ride to the casinos. They do have some closer at Crystal Bay but antiquated at best. The room was small. It was clean. No air conditioning, just a fan in the room. Fancy bed that adjusts the firmness. The friendliest staff there was the Native American Indian guy who was cleaning the room. They advertise no dogs but when I had to go to my car after 10 pm there was a dog barking at me from the room across from the car. It was a large dog with a loud bark. Their breakfast was like a continental breakfast with stale danishes. I would have preferred to head down a half a block to a cafe. The wifi was free (I think) but couldn't sign on with the ipad but my cell phone go on okay. It was slow. There is a cell phone tower running through the hotel since its the tallest building in town so maybe that caused some interference in getting the ipad signed on. I would stay here again but I will know what to expect and what to ask for the next time.

Room Tip: If you want the view of the lake which is what its all about there, get a room on the upper floors.

Pepper Tree is a clean, budget-friendly place to stay in Tahoe City. It is very convenient as it is right on the main strip of town and is a short walk to the public beach. The room was pretty small, but bed was comfortable, and the owners obviously take pride in maintaining the property. We appreciated having a larger dorm-room style microwave/fridge combo in our room. The coffee maker also was very good as it used whole beans that could be freshly ground in your room.

The breakfast options were a little better than the typical continental breakfast and suited our needs. The bonus is the lake view from the balcony on the 3rd floor up. The hotel is on the other side of the road from the lake, but for a place that is an inexpensive as this, we were pleased to have any view. There is also a nice patio on the 3rd floor and a small but well-maintained pool on the 2nd floor.

The downside is the road noise, but if isn't too bad a night, even when the windows are open. I would suggest this as a nice option (in a field of egregiously expensive places) for the budget traveller.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-4 on the 3rd through top floors have the best lake view. Rooms 5 are ok views but are a litt...

Based on their Website, I didn't expect too much more (hotel was booked as part of a wedding block). But for the kind of money paid, overall, I certainly would like to have had a better experience. Saving grace was that the bed was comfortable. Other than that, where do I start? Due to being configured old motel style (although 7 floors tall) with exterior passage-ways leading directly to room doors, only way to get privacy for dressing was to pull the curtains or dress in the tiny bathroom. But with the curtains closed, the room was a cave, not helped by the 3-4 dim, orange-glow wall sconces. Also, no AC. While that's fine after about 2:00 a.m. when the cool mountain air finally infiltrates the hotel -- even with the old-style table fan whirring away -- it makes getting to sleep a little tough. Of course, on Friday and, particularly, Saturday night, getting to sleep before 2:30 a.m. was additionally challenged by the street noise of Tahoe City's main drag just in front of the property, nearby loud bands and at evening's end, revelers leaving bars and heading home. For a woman traveling alone, the idea of leaving a huge window open to the night air on a common walk-way was uncomfortable, but I got over that fear because it otherwise would have been an oven in the room. Bathroom was tiny, tiny, tiny. Anything placed on the minimal counter was easily knocked off...and straight into the toilet. Shower was a sad, plastic-surround style. Of course, no magnifying mirror (and no full-length mirror anywhere in the room). "Closet" is a dark, incredibly narrow cubby around the wall in the back of the room (light didn't work). "Throw" at foot of the bed was visibly stained (noticed staff replaced it after the first night...or flipped it over). Furniture was in good condition...but looked like it was styled in the 1970's. Elevator slower than molasses. No hot tub. On the good side, plenty of convenient parking. Sweeping views of the lake. And the woman who works the front desk is very nice. Given the option, won't stay here again. Would head just down the road to Sunnyside Inn or rent a home on VRBO. Perhaps -- at Sunnyside -- not as nice a view, but quieter, more upscale, on-site restaurant and activities, directly on the lake (yes, more pricey). Tahoe is great. Pepper Tree in is just a bed.

Room Tip: Suggest a room in the "tower". Higher the floor and further to the far end of the short w...
