“Always a great place to visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I have been coming here for 25 years and today we decided was the perfect day for a two hour drive to have lunch once again. It's a beautiful sunny day and the scenery is incredible. Arriving we found the bar area and restaurant packed, but it didn't take long for an outside table to open up for us. They've extended the outside dining area since last we've been here and what a great idea that was. It added so much more seating to the area. We started off with a shrimp martini (shrimp cocktail) that was excellent. Lots of small shrimp in a tasty salsa sauce. For my lunch entree I chose the fish taco's, choice of grilled, cajun, or beer battered, and I chose grilled. There were two large taco's with a generous piece of Mahi Mahi, a coleslaw with an amazing sauce, and I added hot sauce to give it a kick. They were delicious!!! My husband ordered the Chicken Sandwich, which was huge, and it came with french fries. He was also very happy with his meal. The prices are a little on the high side, but definitely worth every penny when considering the view and the quality of the food. Our server was very attentive, but never bothersome. When we needed something she was there. Anyway, it was the perfect day and I can attribute it to our day at Sunnyside. Thank you, we'll be back soon.

Dinner was fabulous and the service was excellent. The view from the deck at Sunnyside is just wonderful. A very relaxing evening as they did not rush even though the restaurant was totally booked. The only downside is the parking as you may have to park down the road.

The restaurant is right on beautiful Lake Tahoe. Went for sunset dinner. I ordered the pork chop and was told the chef recommends "medium". I ordered it med well. It looked cooked on arrival, but was 50% raw when I cut into it. The coffee was a drip machine. It tasted terrible. We were told their espresso machine has been out for repair. Don't order coffee!!! The zucchini sticks were great. The Kobe burger and fries were great and could feed 2!! We have been disappointed with dinner in the past. Would recommend lunch or appetizers. Overall rating 5

Lovely clean rooms. Great bed large living room . Restaurant has excellent food. Had the crab shrimp salad for lunch and it was so good. Then for dinner had the filet mignon and was delicious. Good drinks. We decided to go for a boat ride and they have a small marina right there. You can water ski, tube or just have fun. Good breakfast included with room . I would say its a little noisy on the deck but only because its so popular. There's a beach right there also. I agree with another review that a pool would be great. View was super. I loved the place and didn't want to leave. Not too far from Tahoe city where you can river raft, great for families . Will come again soon !

Room Tip: We were In the garden suite. Nice room

Sunnyside is a wonderful place to stay for a night or two. We enjoyed the wonderful food, and beautiful surroundings of Lake Tahoe. I loved staying at Sunnyside and would recommend it to anyone who loves the rustic feel of the outdoors, and romance of the lake.

The problem started when we arrived and found that the "suite" that we booked for $320/night was actually a room smaller that their regular double rooms and overlooked a boat ramp that had a noisy forklift loading and unloading boats. We changed to a regular double room and the hotel refused to lower the price. The double room did face the lake, which was beautiful, but was right over the restaurant and bar, which was very noisy and crowded. There is no air conditioning and the lake view rooms face the east and get extremely hot. We ate at the restaurant and found the food to be pretentious, average, and way overpriced! So if you are looking for a peaceful experence on the lake, this is definately not your hotel. We moved the next day to Granlibakken down the street and in the mountains for less that half the price of our way overpriced room and had a wonderful stay. Wish we had started at Granlibakken and not wasted our time.

Throw out the 10 best reviews and the 10 worst reviews and you've got yourself a pretty darn good place to stay.. The food was good but a bit overpriced as you would expect. Spend some time on the deck outside with a cold one and enjoy the beauty. A pool would be a great addition, but the lack of room prohibits it. Friendly and very helpful staff. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Stayed in rm 35, no a/c but fans were enough to keep us comfortable.
