“GOOD HOTEL BUT BAD BED!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Hotel was nice, room was nice and big with cool old furniture and carpets. The bed was very uncomfortable and toilet seat was broken, asked the staff to repair toilet and were ignored.Ate at the restaurant, food and service were both decent, also had drinks at the bar and service was decent.Nice little town with old buildings and cool little shops.

Room Tip: ask for room with newer bed

My daughter and I stayed here for a night on our way to the Eastern Sierras and EVERY aspect of the hotel from the staff to the restaurant to the shampoo was perfect. I would highly recommend this delightful little gem in Sutter Creek.

We had a discount coupon so understandable we got the smallest rooms in the property. The room was beautifully renovated and comfortable despite the size. It however, lacked some basic amenities - fridge, coffee maker, space in the bathroom for toiletries. The wine bar balcony was not open but we had access, and it was a lovely place to have a glass of wine, enjoy the scenery and people-watch. The bar/restaurant offered wonderful food and the bartender/server was a delight, as were the rest of the staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room towards the back of the hotel to avoid the noise.

Stayed the night in Sutter Creek, the Hotel was a great find. Very friendly staff, provided us a nicely appointed room in the historic hotel. Beds comfortable, bathroom remodel was well done. I'd stay again!

We picked this hotel because it looked like a great place to meet with friends & family...dining room, bar, balcony, & The Cellar. We were disappointed on all levels. The Bar & Cellar were too crowded. The dining room was too noisy to converse and the food (with the exception of the mac & cheese) was ordinary or worse--they were out of a couple of our desired selections (maybe those would have been good).
We had read somewhere (probably this website) that you can eat or have wine on the balcony if you purchase it from the hotel but when we asked if we could eat on the balcony they said that they don't have the ability to serve on the balcony. Sign on the balcony door states that it closes at 5 pm.
We had a room on the back part of the third floor -- there was one room on the floor with a door buzzer -- that buzzer was used about every 5 minutes from 9 pm to midnight -- no idea what was going on but it was annoying. The room was adequate-though a bit dreary-overpriced for what you get.
We were sold on Hotel Sutter from it's website-but the experience didn't meet our expectations.
Limited parking available--no breakfast offered at the hotel--front desk is frequently unattended.

Stayed in upper room front of hotel. Noisy from street and raucous locals bar downstairs.
Room sloped so much from front to rear that wood chunks were under the bed legs and the dresser. Bath sink handle came off, toilet flush chain disconnected. This is one of the best rooms?
AM coffee for weekend guests, not weekdays. The staff recommended Kaffiene, across the street.
Very good. Food and staff OK at best. Good location but that was the only upside in our stay.

Room Tip: Rear of hotel overlooking the parking lot and dumpsters. Less noise.

Having tracked the ambitious Sutter Hotel remodeling project, we were eager to try out the Sutter Hotel and did so with a recent two night stay. Rooms are decorated nicely and the remodeling craftsmanship is quite good. However, what we liked ends about there. When we checked in the receptionist did not even bother to greet us but rather mechanically asked "Name and Credit Card?". The restaurant was so noisy as to make conversation quite difficult and, unfortunately, the food was ordinary. On Monday morning it was not even possible to get a cup of coffee in this 22 room hotel. One further annoyance. Look at the web site for this hotel and you will see a beautiful balcony after dark with many happy patrons. This is the baloney balcony. Baloney because the hotel kicked everyone off the balcony and locked the door at 5 pm. We heard different explanations from different employees, including that we actually could be there if we bought wine at the bar. Either way, that after-dark photo of a balcony of happy guests was certainly not our experience. All in all, the Sutter Hotel is quite rough around the edges.

Room Tip: Corner rooms at the front of the hotel cost more but may not not worth the expense. No balconies, n...
